USWNT Star Sophia Wilson & Michael Wilson Are Expecting a Child

Soccer star Sophia Wilson, a member of the USWNT, and her NFL player husband Michael Wilson (of the Arizona Cardinals), happily announced on social media that they are expecting their first child. This joyful news follows two months after their wedding in January and a week after Michael’s 25th birthday celebration. The announcement comes approximately one year after their engagement in June. Michael and Sophia, who have been together since their freshman year at Stanford University, where they excelled as student athletes, met each other there. Last year, Sophia made headlines when she and the USWNT won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Michael Wilson and his partner Sophia shared the happy news about their pregnancy on Instagram by posting two images. In the first picture, they posed lovingly with Sophia showing an ultrasound image of their baby. The second photo showed Sophia sitting on a chair surrounded by flowers, while Michael stood behind her, holding the ultrasound photos.

“Life just keeps getting sweeter,” the couple captioned the post. The post garnered 146k likes.

As a gamer, I’ve always been open about my aspirations. In an interview with the Arizona Cardinals alongside Michael, I shared that once I become pregnant, I plan to pause my professional journey temporarily. It feels like, beyond soccer, being a mom is my calling. My career must take a brief hiatus during pregnancy, and I can’t let that happen spontaneously.

Right now, Sophia Wilson is wrapping up the last year of her agreement with Portland Thorns. After her current contract ends, she’s likely to be a player without a team (free agent).
