This week, Kenji Ozawa, who previously led Ouka Studio as co-director on Visions of Mana, officially unveiled a brand new studio called Studio Sasanqua. After the closure of Ouka by NetEase soon after the release of Visions of Mana, this new venture prioritizes the welfare of its developers as its main objective.
This week, Studio Sasanqua debuted with a trailer and launched a fresh Japanese website. The studio is being helmed by Kenji Ozawa, who previously held a key position at Ouka. After numerous employees were let go from Ouka following the release of Visions of Mana, Ozawa publicly expressed dissatisfaction about the situation and subsequently left the studio. Soon after, Ouka closed its doors. With Sasanqua, Ozawa aims to prevent a similar fate for the studio under his leadership.
It’s said that Studio Sasanqua is being personally financed by Kenji Ozawa and operates under the principle that “it’s crucial to safeguard creators.” Notably, NetEase has been making headlines for its recent layoffs. For instance, Ouka Studios experienced layoffs shortly following the successful launch of Visions of Mana last year, and more recently, NetEase let go of their entire Seattle support team that was assisting the incredibly popular Marvel Rivals game.
Keep an eye on Studio Sasanqua as they currently only have a trailer available. We’ll be sure to update you with any new developments or game announcements from the team, right here on Shacknews.
