On Tuesday, voice artist and humorist George Lowe, who was famously recognized for his performance as Space Ghost in the animated show Space Ghost Coast to Coast, tragically passed away at the age of 67.
The sad news of Lowe’s passing was first shared by Will Harris via Bluesky. Later, Lowe’s long-term friend and radio host “Marvelous” Marvin announced on Facebook that Lowe had lost his battle with a prolonged illness. He also paid homage to the star.
I’ve just been informed by a friend that George Lowe, the voice behind the Space Ghost: Coast to Coast title character, has passed away. Rest in peace, George.

Marvin shared in his post that he is deeply grieving as his brother and lifelong friend, George Lowe, who had been a part of his life for over 40 years, has sadly passed away after battling an extended illness. He expressed that losing George felt like a piece of himself had died too. Known for his exceptional artistic and voice acting talents, George was a brilliant genius with a heart as warm as they come. Not only was he the funniest person Marvin knew, but he had been stealing jokes from him for years – some of which George returned the favor by using them himself. George was also the voice behind Space Ghost and many other memorable characters. In remembrance, Marvin used the Zobanian term “Pweeloto.
Back in the late ’80s to early ’90s, I found myself dipping my toes into voiceover work for TBS. However, it was in 1994 that things truly skyrocketed for me when I stepped into the role of Space Ghost. This iconic character, originally a Hanna-Barbera cartoon, got an exciting makeover and transformed into the host of a talk show. Here, I’d engage in lively conversations with real-life guests, making the surreal feel surprisingly tangible!
One of the initial original shows created for Cartoon Network, it spanned an impressive 11 seasons, from 1994 to 2008. During this period, a grand total of 109 episodes were broadcast on Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and GameTape.
Beyond his role as Space Ghost, Lowe lent his voice to numerous Cartoon Network and Adult Swim productions. The actor graced shows such as The Brak Show, Sealab 2021, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Perfect Hair Forever, Robot Chicken, Squidbillies, Celebrity Deathmatch, among others. His final performance was in the animated comedy Jellystone!, where he played a cameo as Space Ghost.
ComingSoon extends its condolences to the family and friends of Lowe at this time.
