Without a shadow of a doubt, Priyanka Chopra Jonas stands among the most renowned Indian film actors globally today. Yet, it might surprise you to learn that her acting career began back in 2002 with a movie produced in the South of India! Indeed, her first on-screen appearance was in the Tamil film “Thamizhan,” where she shared screen time with none other than the famous actor Thalapathy Vijay.
In a recent chat with Lehren Retro, Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Madhu Chopra, shared insights about her daughter’s entry into the Tamil film industry and her journey during the filming process. She explained that after winning the Miss World pageant, Priyanka initially showed no enthusiasm for acting and even declined the offer from Thamizhan’s producers at first.
Later on, the creators got in touch with Priyanka’s brother who then linked them to their father. It was ultimately Priyanka’s father who managed to persuade the actress to try acting during her summer break. Madhu Chopra disclosed that a considerable amount of persuasion was required, but it was only after her father had made a promise that Priyanka agreed to give it a go.
Dr. Madhu went on to say that the actress eventually earned a great deal of respect for Thalapathy Vijay. She pointed out that Raju Sundaram, Prabhu Deva’s sibling, was the choreographer for the movie, and the dance moves were quite challenging. Nevertheless, the actor from Leo, who was an experienced dancer, showed remarkable patience with her during this process. The actress from Bajirao Mastani had to learn a new language, memorize lines, and master dance routines. However, she soon adapted to these challenges, and by the end of filming, she had developed a strong friendship with Thalapathy Vijay.
The actress’s mother suggested that the production team should save reels and allow the actress to rehearse her lines and actions in her room during evenings, since she frequently made mistakes and was often reprimanded. Over time, she began to improve, and it was then that the crew acknowledged her progress. Additionally, Madhu Chopra shared that Priyanka Chopra also developed a fondness for acting while filming Thamizhan.
In other words, the story doesn’t stop there – she continued to act in both Hindi and English movies. Her exceptional talent earned her global recognition, and now she boasts a large following of fans around the world.
On the professional side, Priyanka Chopra is presently engaged in two English movies at the moment. Her initial venture is titled “Head of State,” directed by Ilya Naishuller. This film boasts a star-studded cast including Idris Elba, John Cena, Jack Quaid, among others in key roles. Additionally, she’s scheduled to feature in the action drama movie “The Bluff.” This production showcases Karl Urban, Ismael Cruz Cordova, and others as prominent characters.
Regarding Thalapathy Vijay, he’s currently immersed in the production of his upcoming movie titled Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth. Known as a political action film, it boasts an impressive cast that includes Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj among others in significant roles. Anticipate its release on the big screen towards the end of this year.
