Official trailer and plot of Thandel

In the town of Thandel, it’s clear that Naga Chaitanya’s character, Raju, is deeply smitten with a lady named Bujji (Sai Pallavi). Before their wedding, she expresses worry for his well-being and pleads with him to abandon fishing. Despite her apprehensions, Raju disregards them and ventures out to sea. A fierce storm then causes his boat to veer off course, resulting in his capture by Pakistani authorities. The narrative then unfolds, detailing Raju’s efforts to endure the hardships and find a path back home.

The movie is based on true incidents that occurred when fishermen from Srikakulam mistakenly ventured into Pakistani waters. In the year 2000, a man named Chodipilli Musalayya shifted to Gujarat for employment opportunities. Since GPS technology was not common back then, many fishermen unintentionally crossed borders. On one unfortunate night, their boats were seized by Pakistani Coast Guard personnel and they were arrested.

Following several months of ambiguity, it wasn’t until early 2002 that the fishermen regained their freedom. Despite making their way back home, the ordeal had a profound and lasting impact on them.
