Elton John Surprised a Tour Bus While Filming Disney’s The Country Bears

In a recent conversation, film director Peter Hastings (of Dog Man fame) discussed Elton John’s lively appearance in Disney’s musical road comedy, The Country Bears. This movie was adapted from the Country Bear Jamboree, which is one of the Magic Kingdom’s well-loved theme park shows.

Much like other famous rock bands, the members of the iconic group, The Country Bears, disbanded due to the pitfalls of their own fame – ego, rivalry, and perhaps too much sweetener. A passionate supporter, Beary Barrington, endeavors to persuade the disgruntled former bandmates – Ted and Fred Bedderhead, Tennessee O’Neal, and Zeb Zoober – to set aside their disagreements and reunite for a charity concert to preserve Country Bear Hall, the historic venue where the band first made its mark.

The Country Bears director recalls Elton John’s fun cameo

During an interview with ComingSoon, Hastings shared an entertaining backstage tale about Elton John’s appearance in The Country Bears. This anecdote revolved around a Hollywood sightseeing bus. He reminisced about the fantastic demeanor of the music legend during filming, disclosing that Elton John would greet tourists as he acted alongside four mechanical bears while shooting a scene.

On one day, Elton John was simply amazing. Here’s an amusing incident that transpired. We were filming outside a mansion in Beverly Hills, with numerous animatronic bears lining the street. I was standing there with Elton John, and then a tour bus passed by, typically pointing out the Beverly Hills mansion. However, on this particular day, the tour bus drove past and found four giant animatronic bears conversing on the street with Elton John! He just waved back nonchalantly. It was an incredibly fun experience.

In the premiere of his directorial career, Hastings unveiled the Country Bears movie. Apart from Elton John, the live-action actors included Christopher Walken, Stephen Tobolowsky, Diedrich Bader, Alex Rocco, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, and M.C. Gainey. Additionally, notable guest appearances were made by singers such as Queen Latifah, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley, Brian Setzer, Xzibit, among others. Interestingly, the bears in the title were given voices by Haley Joel Osment, Diedrich Bader, Brad Garrett, Toby Huss, and Stephen Root.
