Just now, James Gunn shared on social media an initial sneak peek of his upcoming DC Universe project. In the forthcoming HBO series “Lanterns,” Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre make a powerful team as DC’s newest crime-fighting pair.
In a spin on their usual roles, Chandler and Pierre embark on an adventure across the American heartland, taking on the identities of interstellar peacekeepers Hal Jordan and John Steward, also known as the Green Lanterns. Throughout their journey, they delve into mysterious murders while maintaining their duties as cosmic law enforcers. The show’s official summary reveals that it will chronicle “newcomer John Stewart and legendary Hal Jordan, two intergalactic police officers who find themselves embroiled in a sinister mystery on Earth, investigating a murder in the heart of America.” Joining them in this intriguing tale are actors like Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry, Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, a contemporary cowboy figure, Poorna Jagannathan as John’s prospective love interest Zoe, and Ulrich Thomsen as the malevolent Green Lantern antagonist Sinestro. Alongside Chandler and Pierre, this talented cast brings the story to life.
The television series titled “Lanterns” is jointly penned by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. These three individuals, along with James Hawes, are anticipated to serve as executive producers. Moreover, it’s been announced that Hawes will direct the initial two episodes. In a recent update on X platform, Gunn confirms that production for “Lanterns” has commenced. The first season will encompass eight episodes. Another upcoming project is an animated series titled “My Adventures With Green Lantern,” which is a spin-off from the well-known Max series. As of now, there’s no official release date for “Lanterns.
