Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t just a mountain; it’s an adventure that’s best enjoyed with companionship. While you can tackle it alone, it becomes smoother and more manageable with friends by your side. Capcom has provided us with the Palico, Seikret, and SoS Flare for assistance, but having extra help never hurts! Co-op hunting makes things easier as someone else can draw the monster’s attention (aggro) or handle damage control (DPS). Sometimes, it’s just nice to call in some friends, kick back, and enjoy the scenery together. Maybe even do a spot of fishing on the side! The thrill of chasing your next weapon or armor set is exciting, but with friends, there are endless possibilities. Now, let’s break down how multiplayer works in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Co-Op Hunting in MHW
Experiencing Wilds on your own is exhilarating, but it’s the fantastic multiplayer aspect that truly transforms it into a hunter’s paradise. There are several ways to enjoy cooperative play, with varying levels of complexity. Creating a Private Lobby might just be the most straightforward method. Simply initiate a Private Lobby, extend invitations to your friends, and you’re good to go!
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve found that smaller groups might prefer to hunt as a party, but larger ones tend to thrive in Squad mode. That’s because joining a Squad’s lobby is flexible – you can jump in at any moment. However, to access Squad Lobbies, you need to advance through the main campaign first. Lastly, Monster Hunter Wilds offers another multiplayer option: the Environment Link system, which allows you to enter a shared world with other players. Here’s how it works:
- Create a Link Party (you can invite from your Squad if you have one)
- Send an Environmental Link invitation to do seamless co-op
- Seamless co-op places everyone in the same world
- Everyone is on the host’s world state (their story progress, unlocked areas, etc.)
A notable perk of Environment Link is that it allows players to initiate quests effortlessly by interacting with monsters within the open world. Additionally, all resources are instanced, meaning everyone can collect the same item without issues related to theft, such as picking flowers like in Genshin, which is a relief!
