How to begin Into the Underworld in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

In the main storyline, titled “Underworld,” begins immediately following your successful completion of “Speak of the Devil” in “Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.” Your task here is to locate John of Liechtenstein, who can assist you in the battle against Sigismund and warn him that his position has been compromised. However, there’s a hitch – John is currently in hiding, and you’ll need to interact with several individuals to track him down.

Initially, after bidding farewell to both Jan Zizka and Katherine, your mission becomes finding Katherine again upon reaching Kuttenberg City. During the daytime, she can be found working in the kitchens at a place known as the Hangman’s Hatter Tavern. Approach her, and she’ll share intel about a spy named Goatskin who might be able to assist you. Your immediate task will be locating this individual.

Make sure your Speech stats are high enough because you will need to do a lot of convincing.

Finding Goatskin

Your initial destination should be the “Hole in the Wall Tavern,” nestled at the city’s southeastern corner. Upon arrival, have a chat with the doorman named Knuckles. He will share that Chenyek is the one running the place. Engage Chenyek in conversation and try to persuade him to disclose information about Goatskin. Keep in mind, you may need to successfully pass a Speech skill test to extract this information from him.

Should you not succeed in the skill check, you’ll find yourself in one of two situations: either paying Chenyek 200 Groschen or facing off against his most formidable henchman, Goliath. If handing over the money isn’t an option for you, prepare to square off with Goliath. Defeat him in battle and the information will be yours. Alternatively, if you’re keen on taking this route, consider accepting the side quest involving fistfights.

No matter where your information comes from, Chenyek will guide you to the nearby bathhouse. Prior to visiting it, have a chat with Innkeeper Weighman. He’ll inform you that Goatskin’s girlfriend works at the bathhouse and might be able to aid you. This interaction initiates a secondary task where you can plan a trap for Goatskin. You can carry out this plan once you gather more information about him.

From here on out, there are two primary paths to obtain Goatskin. Each path necessitates successful dialogue interactions, or speech checks, to advance further.

1) Bathhouse visit

In my enthusiasm, I’d head straight to the heart of the bathhouse – Madam Beata’s domain. Sitting regally in the main room, she’s the one you want to approach for a soothing soak. But don’t just stop at booking your bath, oh no! You can also ask her about this fellow named Goatskin. Mentioning my intention to give him a piece of my mind seems to ruffle her tranquil feathers, which only serves to boost my standing among the locals.

Inform her that one of her maids may be in a secret relationship with Goatskin. At first, she might refuse, but eventually, she will consent for you to investigate and identify the maid who is dating Goatskin. Speak with several maids, as they could provide valuable clues. Notably, Little Lida will be instrumental in the second approach we discussed, so ensure you engage her in conversation.

The individual you’re searching for is known as “Lousy Mary,” a brunette maid who works at the bathhouse. She appears quite eager to assist you. Mention Goatskin to her, and she’ll feign ignorance about him. However, persist with your inquiries, and she will eventually confess to being Goatskin’s lover and refuse to divulge his location. If you can pass a persuasive conversation check, she might relent and disclose where Goatskin can be found.

The precise spot where goatskin is hidden is marked on the map provided. As you approach this location, Henry will struggle to figure out how to reach the hideout. Here’s what you should do: Move towards the next building and ascend into the barn. Then, descend into the following barn and scale another ladder to gain access to a secret passageway. Keep your eyes peeled for an opening above that leads to a small chamber where you can jump in.

Enter through the entrance and you’ll find yourself at Goatskin’s lair. If he’s not present, bide your time till dawn; he’ll likely appear then. Engage him in conversation to advance the mission.

2) Follow the merchant

The second approach involves arranging a trap for Goatskin. As you journey towards the bathhouse, engage in discussions with Foreman Vlach and the other miners to find out that Goatskin frequently targets wealthy bathhouse visitors for robbery. With this knowledge, proceed to the bathhouse and converse with Madam Beata once more, then seek out Little Lida who will provide you with information about a merchant.

Following a few rounds of conversation assessments, Little Lida will guide you to a merchant named Udo von Tauberbischofsheim, who appears to be overindulging at the local tavern. Engage him in dialogue, and after successfully passing another conversation test, you can persuade him to return home to his displeased spouse. In his current intoxicated state, Udo complies and heads towards his wagon.

Wait until it’s well past midnight before you encounter Udo, as you aim to establish a trap for Goatskin, who typically targets merchants under the cover of darkness.

Udo is walking a circuitous route to reach his cart, making it a lengthy process if you choose to shadow him. Maintain a bit of space while tracking him to avoid raising Goatskin’s suspicion. Just as Udo nears his cart, Goatskin emerges with the intention to steal from him. Thwart his robbery attempt and engage in conversation with Goatskin, who initially will be reluctant to chat. You’ll need to persuade him into joining your efforts.

No matter what approach you take, after identifying yourself to Goatskin, he’s likely to assist you. Upon successfully persuading him during a conversation, he will guide you toward Samuel, a pious Jewish individual who shares your affinities.

Finding Samuel

Samuel is usually found at the synagogue located northeast of Kuttenberg. You can use the objective marker to find his exact location. The quickest route would be to use the northern fast travel point and then walk towards the Synagogue. Once there, establish your loyalty to him, which should persuade him to instruct you on how to disperse a group of anti-Semites who are causing trouble for his community.

Go to the spot indicated on the map and stay put till it’s very late. This action will initiate a sequence where Henry discovers that there’s no anti-Semitic group, instead, he’s been lured into a trap by Samuel. Following the conclusion of this scene, prepare for a combat encounter with two unexpectedly strong swordsmen. Ensure your abilities are sharpened before proceeding. Overcome both adversaries to bring about another cutscene and face off against Samuel once more.

First, Samuel admits that he tricked you, believing you could be a would-be assassin. Then, Henry manages to persuade Samuel that he’s actually seeking John from Liechtenstein as an ally. With this revelation, the scene comes to a close.

Conclusion

After being blindfolded, Henry will be led back to Samuel’s secret hideout beneath the ground. Once the blindfold is off, John from Liechtenstein will welcome him and verify that he is indeed an ally. Henry should then sit down for a chat with this individual, sharing his journey in great detail to earn his favor. It turns out that the basement they are in is part of the King Solomon Tavern, which belongs to Samuel.
