In the scorching Oilwell Basin, there exists only one dominant beast, and surprisingly, it’s not the Ajarakan, despite this large, blazing ape being formidable. What might surprise you is that when you initially engage it in combat, you’ll be squaring off against not just one, but two of these imposing creatures. Therefore, understanding how to conquer the Ajarakan is crucial if you hope to emerge victorious from this encounter.
Ajarakan appears in the mid-rank of Monster Hunter Wilds, providing ample opportunity for preparation before engaging in combat and encountering various monsters to craft effective weapons and armor. This monster is susceptible to Blastblight, a condition that could cause an explosion if not addressed. Fortunately, a Nulberry can eliminate this threat, or if one isn’t available, performing a three-time stop, drop, and roll on the ground will help remove the hazardous status.
What type of monster is Ajarakan?
In Monster Hunter Wilds, we’re introduced to a fierce creature known as the Ajarakan, which falls under the category of Fanged Beasts. It shares this category with familiar faces such as Rajang, Bishaten from previous games, and fellow banana enthusiasts Congalala and Blangonga in Monster Hunter Wilds. Interestingly, the Ajarakan is the first ape-type monster in the series to exhibit the fire element, excluding certain variations of other monsters but still setting it apart.
Ajarakan shares many traits with the formidable Rajang, being swift, bold, and unafraid to move rapidly in various contexts, whether it be in terms of physical attacks or general movement.
How to fight Ajarakan
In Monster Hunter Wilds’ storyline, your initial battle against the Ajarkan will see you and Olivia engaged with not one, but two of these formidable creatures simultaneously. Your primary objective in this phase should be survival rather than being overly aggressive. After a while, Olivia will distract one, leaving you to face a one-on-one duel against a massive flaming ape. The advantage here is that if you’re defeated during the fight, Olivia will return to aid you in defeating the last remaining Ajarkan.
As a towering, irate gorilla in the game, my primary method of combat is by unleashing my fists with tremendous force. My moveset includes rapid punches, ground-shaking swipes, and powerful slam attacks that can pack quite the punch and send opponents flying. Occasionally, I’ll let loose with fireballs to keep things interesting. To avoid getting hit hard, it’s best to stay nimble and dodge rather than trying to land a series of big hits.
In time, the monster will grow furious and self-ignite (as indicated by its orange glow). This fiery state not only provides the Ajarakan with new assault options, but it also infuses nearly every move with a lava effect. For instance, a ground slam will erupt lava, while fireball projectiles extend their range, and so forth.
As a thrilled observer, I’d share that the Ajarakan possesses an extraordinary skill: navigating monkey bars in specific zones, such as area 6 of the Oilwell Basin. It’s not just a simple leap to railings; it’s more like a graceful acrobatics act, where it swings around before making a sudden, wrestler-like descent, reminiscent of a pro leaping from the top rope.
Other Ajarakan attacks to look out for
- Elbow Drop: The Ajarakan will drop elbow first onto the floor and then drag itself along the ground before lifting up and throwing sparks all over the place at the end of the move. When Ignited this will turn into a mass of lava, making the finale far more dangerous. This is fairly easy to avoid by rolling to either side.
- Meltdown: When Ignited, the Ajarakan will slam its fists into the floor and melt the ground in front of it. It then follows this up by flinging chunks of magma into the air, destroying anything in its path. You’ll want to stay at the side of the monster to dodge this. After this move, the Ajarakans hands will be wounded, meaning you can pull off a Focus Attack for massive damage.
High Rank Ajarakan attacks
In the realm of High Rank, the Ajarakan becomes an even greater adversary due to its enhanced attack power and aggression. Notably, it acquires a fresh maneuver when ignited, a move you should be cautious about.
- Spin to win: The Ajarakan will start glowing orange and spinning around in a spot on the ground; after a few seconds of this it will shoot into the air before becoming a heat-seeking missile and crashing down upon the hunter and releasing a massive magma burst. As soon as you see it spin, put away your weapon, and when it flies into the air, you’ll want to book it in any direction.
Ajarakan weaknesses
icons indicating higher levels of damage are more potent, ranging from a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 4. Elements not specified offer no additional damage benefits.
In your upcoming battle against the Ajarakan, it’s important to note that this creature is vulnerable to both Water and Ice elements. You’ll find the most effective weapons for battling Ajarakan are crafted from the Uth Duna, a powerful monster residing in the Scarlet Forest. If you can acquire an Uth Duna weapon, it would be highly beneficial.
On the other hand, if you’ve previously defeated the Balahara and Hirabami, their weapons will also work against Ajarakan since they deal Water and Ice damage respectively. So, either of those options should suffice in your battle against Ajarakan.
In the upcoming High Rank rematch, consider enhancing a Uth Duna weapon for optimal performance. However, remember that you’ll also be able to utilize weapons from Jin Dahaad and Xu Wu. These offer potent Ice and Water element weapons respectively, which could give you an edge in battle.
Regarding weapon selection, feel free to choose any weapon that suits your preference, as there are no disadvantages to any option. All monsters’ body parts receive equal blunt and slashing damage, ensuring that your choice won’t lead to any mistakes.
