How To Beat Guardian Ebony Odogaron In Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter, it’s not just about the standard monsters; there are Apex variants, subspecies, Risen, and numerous others for many iconic creatures. Moreover, Monster Hunter Wilds adds a new twist with Guardian Monsters as its exclusive variants.

These creatures operate in a distinctive manner, leveraging the surroundings in Wyveria, augmented with additional skills compared to their initial forms. One of the swiftest among these beings is Guardian Ebony Odogaron, who can cause issues if proper caution isn’t taken. Let’s delve into all there is to learn about them and strategies for overcoming them.

Guardian Ebony Odogaron – Strengths And Weaknesses

Guardian Monsters possess distinct characteristics. For instance, they don’t fatigue as they don’t require nourishment, making them capable of maintaining peak performance during the entire battle. Furthermore, their injuries mend naturally, and this healing process is significantly accelerated when they are immersed in Wylkcrystals. Therefore, it’s crucial to take action promptly when encountering them because they won’t exhaust until they are defeated.

In the instance of Ebony Odogaron, their speed is extraordinary, which makes it challenging to land blows due to their swift movements. Fortunately, they possess several vulnerable areas that can be exploited, providing opportunities for strategic attacks.

  • Weak Point – Forelegs.
  • Elemental/Ailment Weaknesses – Water, Paralysis.
  • Elemental/Ailment Strengths – Dragon, Exhaust.
  • Best Weapon Damage – All viable, though Blunt damage excels somewhat.

Watch out for getting struck head-on, because it will cause a temporary transformation where your attacks become Dragon-elemental.

Despite not having any form of damage immunity, Dragon is undoubtedly Odogaron’s strongest defense. This lack of immunity grants you a significant amount of tactical flexibility. The same principle applies when considering status effects. Although Paralysis is the most potent, it’s only Exhaustion that they are completely immune to. However, this leaves room for the application of other status effects such as Poison and Blast.

Disabling Odogaron by removing its tail is a highly effective tactic, as its attacks primarily depend on its tail. Without this appendage, the reach and power of most of its moves are significantly diminished.

Best Equipment To Fight Guardian Ebony Odogaron

In your initial encounters with the Guardians, you’ll find that they employ the Dragon element, making it one of your earliest experiences with such foes. Unfortunately, there aren’t many armor sets available at that stage that offer substantial resistance to Dragon attacks. However, prior to this encounter, you’ve already faced both Guardian Doshaguma and Guardian Rathalos. At the moment in the game, the armor of Guardian Doshaguma offers the highest resistance against Dragon attacks among all available options.

When it comes to choosing weapons, the Water-based options might be your best bet. Among various choices spread across all the weapons, Balahara and Uth Duna are the ones that are commonly found and worth pursuing.

Guardian Ebony Odogaron – Fight Breakdown And Moves

As a fervent admirer, I’d describe Ebony Odogaron as an unparalleled predator and vigilant watchdog. They possess incredible agility, making it challenging to employ slow weapons effectively against them. Their swift attacks can send you flying, and they can cover ground so quickly that it seems like the blink of an eye before they’re on top of you. They boast remarkable strength and speed, but their vulnerabilities to elements and ailments offer a glimmer of hope. Strategically targeting the forelegs and tail will significantly hinder their arsenal of moves.

Let’s check out their moves now and how to best counter them:

Move Description Counter
Chomp Odogaron opens their mouth before lunging at the player. There’s a long wind-up to this attack, so avoid it at it charges and punish during the recovery period.
Slash Combo Odogaron slashes in front of themself quickly with a claw, potentially a second time. Occassionally, they will then stand up and slam with both claws for high damage and knockback. The slashes are easy enough to avoid, though be wary not to attack until you are certain the combo is complete. The slam gives much more time to punish.
Tail Whip Odogaron takes a quick leap forward to whip the player with their tail before jumping backwards. This attack pulls off quickly, so dodging forward or blocking it is the most effective strategy.
Tail Swipe Odogaron does a quick tail swipe behind themself that knocks down anyone in range for small damage. Be mindful not to stay behind Odogaron for too long to avoid this. The attack can also be powered through during some heavier attacks.
Tail Whirlwind Odogaron preps and then does a spin, attacking everyone in a circle around them for decent damage and knocking them away. If you see Odogaron standig still for too long, step away to avoid this attack unless you’re confident in your dodging and blocking.
Wylkcrystal Slam When by a pool of Wylkcrystals, Odogaron may perform their slam combo, which will cause a massive explosion all around them with Dragon element. If you see Odogaron performing the slam attack, get your distance. Being near them at all during this will catch you in the blast.

In combat, Odogaron maintains its damage rate by utilizing its speed and powerful tail, but these same attributes can make it vulnerable. Strategically timed Offset Attacks can stun Odogaron, providing an opportunity for you to sever its tail or break it entirely. The advantage of heavier weapons in this scenario is that they can penetrate many of Odogaron’s weaker attacks, allowing for continuous offense.

Guardian Ebony Odogaron – Drops And Materials

As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed that Odogaron, whether it’s Low or High Rank, generally keeps the same materials. However, there are some fresh items added to its inventory that aren’t just upgraded versions of the old ones. Interestingly, the probability of obtaining each item remains similar, and these new materials can be acquired from various sources as well. Despite this, the tail continues to be the primary source for materials. Specifically, both the Plate and Gem have a higher chance of dropping from the severed tail.
