For the very first time, the much-awaited Monster Hunter Wilds was simultaneously released on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. Since the debut of Monster Hunter World in 2018, the fanbase has expanded significantly, making now an ideal moment for newcomers to immerse themselves in this exciting phenomenon and discover why everyone’s been talking about it!
No Thanks, Keep Reading
Monster Hunter World stands out as the most accessible title within the Monster Hunter series, but don’t let that fool you – there’s still a substantial learning curve when you first dive in. If you’re eager to navigate the Forbidden Lands more swiftly and confidently, these ten suggestions will guide you on your path.
Pick A Weapon And Stick With It

In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are 14 different weapons available at the beginning, each with distinct advantages, disadvantages, and unique gameplay styles. It’s suggested that you try out various weapons in the training areas to find one that suits your playstyle best. However, once you’ve made your choice, it’s strongly advised to stick with that weapon for most of the campaign, if not all the way through the endgame.
As a gamer, I’ve found that each weapon in this game is intricate and demands time to truly grasp its nuances – hours upon hours, in fact. And if you dive headfirst into challenging weapons like the Switch Axe or Insect Glaive? Well, buckle up for quite a ride!
However, while it’s undeniable that certain weapons excel against specific monsters, I believe it’s crucial to stick with one weapon until I’ve achieved mastery over it. Only then should I consider exploring others.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, you can now carry and utilize not one, but two distinct weapons simultaneously – a first for the series. While this multi-weapon setup might appeal to seasoned players, for beginners, it would be advisable to stick with a single weapon to start with for a more manageable learning experience.
It’s smart to choose two weapons of the same kind that have distinct elemental or status effect variations. This way, you can take advantage of their unique properties in various situations.
Learn Your Core Combos

In Monster Hunter Wilds, mindlessly throwing light and heavy attacks won’t take you far; even some smaller monsters can be overpowered by button mashing initially, but as challenges escalate, it’s crucial to exhibit some self-control. Start honing your basic weapon combination skills as early as possible if you aim to stand a chance in the harder battles.
To discover the suggested combinations for your weapon, simply access the pause menu, move to the “Information” section, scroll down to “Game Guide”, and finally click on “Control Scheme” for weapons.
After that, pick your preferred weapon, flip through the pages twice, and you’ll encounter a set of fundamental combos. Mastering these will assist you in grasping the advantages and disadvantages of your weapon, as well as the optimal way to handle positioning and timing when initiating an attack.
Don’t Grind Until You Hit A Wall

In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are numerous options for crafting weapons and armor sets, each needing a unique combination of monster parts and resources. If you find yourself missing only a few items needed for weapon upgrades or completing an armor set, it might seem appealing to momentarily halt the campaign and hunt monsters you’ve already encountered. However, this is not strictly necessary.
In Monster Hunter games, “The Wall” is a frequently occurring scenario. You’ll be smoothly progressing through your monster-hunting spree when all of a sudden, you stumble upon one that appears significantly tougher than the rest. This challenging creature marks “The Wall,” and you shouldn’t feel compelled to gather upgrades until you reach this point.
In simpler terms, you don’t need to spend extra time upgrading your basic weapons or armor for the initial campaign as they will suffice. Once you reach High Rank, the gear you have now will become obsolete and you won’t need the wide variety of elemental armors and weapons you’ve collected thus far.
Don’t Be Afraid To Call In Some Help

In Monster Hunter: Wilds, it’s perfectly fine to seek assistance from others, as this game is essentially designed for cooperative play. For those who prefer a solo experience, the game now offers the option to summon Non-Player Character (NPC) hunters for aid when needed, making it possible for even the most solitary players to receive assistance when they find themselves in tricky situations.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, the level of challenge adapts according to the size of your hunting team. This means that as more hunters join the party, the monster becomes stronger. However, this also provides an advantage, as the monster now has multiple targets to attack, not just you and your Palico. If you find yourself in a tough spot, don’t hesitate to summon reinforcements.
Loadouts Make Battle Prep A Breeze

In Monster Hunter Worlds, you’ll encounter plenty of item management, which can become tedious when all you want is to dive into the hunt. To save yourself time, consider creating a customized loadout. This way, you won’t have to manually restock your potions, antidotes, and traps before each mission.
As a passionate hunter, I always like to prepare my own loadout that makes me feel ready for any hunting adventure. Here’s what I usually stock in my item pouch: Mega Potions, Antidotes, Nulberries, Dung Pods, Flash Pods, Hot and Cool Drinks, Shock Traps, Tranq Bombs, Well-Done Meat, and Rations.
After that, move towards your tent, click on ‘Transfer Items’, then look for ‘Item Pouch’. Now, use the left joystick to navigate to the loadout menu. Inside this menu, open the submenu and pick “Register Loadout”. Now, your loadout has been saved and you can easily replenish your bags with all necessary items before each hunt by returning here.
Don’t Forget To Eat!

As a gamer, I always make sure to take a bite before each fight, as it boosts my health and stamina to their max limits, giving me an edge in the battlefield. However, the benefits from consuming food don’t last forever, so after a few fights, I find myself needing to refuel again.
To cook food, easily select your portable grill from the convenient menu options and utilize it. Select “Grill a Meal” and opt for the “Recommended Meal.” If you’d like to add extra ingredients, feel free to incorporate them into your dish for an added bonus, which can be found listed beneath each ingredient’s name.
If you’ve gathered any raw meat from wandering herbivores, you’ll also be able to cook some meat for consumption during combat, providing a swift enhancement to both your health and endurance levels.
Target Wounds To Speed Up Hunts

In Monster Hunter Wilds, there’s a feature that lets you focus on a monster’s injuries, dealing extra damage to them. By persistently attacking the same part of the monster’s body, you’ll eventually reveal a wound. You can spot wounds by keeping the left trigger pressed and looking for areas with glowing red marks on the monster.
Striking vulnerable spots causes extra damage, and repeated strikes will ultimately cause their destruction, momentarily disorienting and halting the monster’s assaults.
Every weapon possesses a unique attack that can swiftly eliminate wounds, known as a Focus Strike, Focus Slash, Focus Blow, Focus Fire, Focus Blast, or Focus Assault. To execute this move, hold down the left trigger while pressing the right button. Each attack exhibits a slight variation in its impact, but they all excel at instantly obliterating a monster’s wound for substantial damage and disorientation.
Monster Weaknesses Don’t Really Matter Until Endgame

As you advance in the campaign, the monsters’ vulnerabilities become less significant.
In the later stages of the campaign, a monster’s weaknesses are no longer crucial factors.
Rather than devoting time to amassing a collection of weapons with various elements, concentrate more on progressing through the campaign and reaching the endgame, as it is during this phase that your efforts will truly make a difference.
Mount Up When You Need A Breather

In Monster Hunter World, compared to Monster Hunter Wilds, there’s a new addition called the secret, resembling a bird, that serves as an incredibly adaptable mount for combat. By merely pressing a button, you can summon and immediately climb onto this secret, regardless of whether you’re already running or, more frequently, if you’ve been knocked down by a monster attack.
Whenever the situation arises for you to swiftly escape or catch your breath, make good use of the secret maneuver. There’s plenty of activities you can engage in while mounted, like sharpening, drinking potions, and switching between weapons. The secret move enables you to carry out these maintenance tasks at a fast pace, so don’t hesitate to utilize it effectively.
Collect Pretty Much Everything

In simpler terms, during your secret expeditions, it’s not just about guzzling potions and honing your weapons whenever the creature you’re pursuing escapes into a fresh environment. While your secret ride automatically tracks the monster’s path, this gives you a chance to gather precious resources from your surroundings.
Instead of viewing secret rides casually, consider them as mini-challenges to gather as much bitterbug, adament seeds, and honey as possible during pauses in battles. Whatever items you manage to pick up will be valuable resources for crafting later on. Gathering parts from defeated monsters is especially beneficial because they can double as useful materials. Even if you don’t use these monster parts in any crafting projects, you can always trade them for armor spheres instead.
