In Monster Hunter World, adorning gear is crucial: it allows you to add extra abilities to your armor and weapons. These abilities can reduce stamina consumption, enhance weapon sharpness, boost attacks when fully healthied up, among other benefits. Rare orbs can even have two distinct abilities linked, making them extremely valuable assets.
A significant portion of your late-game playtime will involve gathering optimal adornments for your preferred weapon setup, yet you’ll begin accumulating these items fairly early in the game. Here is a comprehensive guide covering all aspects of decorations, including how to acquire them and how to incorporate them into your equipment to further enhance your hunter’s power.
How to get decorations
In Chapter 2-4, once you’ve successfully defeated The Black Flame, you’ll receive your first set of decorations. Initially, these will appear as Mystery Orbs. At the conclusion of the quest, these orbs will be automatically appraised and transformed into a variety of decorative items for your collection.
In this game, there are two types of orbs: Sword orbs that fit into your weapon slot, and Armor orbs that naturally go into your armor slot. Each type comes in three levels of rarity: Mystery Orbs, Glowing Orbs, and Ancient Orbs, with Mystery being the least rare, followed by Glowing, and Ancient being the most rare.
To start off, you’ll receive decorations solely through hunts. However, over time, you’ll have the opportunity to obtain them via three distinct approaches.
- Quest rewards from hunts
- The melding pot in Suja
- Bonus rewards from investigations (High Rank)
A more effective way to embellish your farm would be to reach a higher rank and make use of the investigation system. This allows monsters to appear randomly on the map, offering various bonuses and frequently including rare orbs as part of their guaranteed rewards.
On the map, you have the option to choose a monster and click ‘Start Investigation’ using your guild points. Once initiated, you may attempt this quest up to three times. Each victory grants you the corresponding reward specified on the mission.
Over the course of some very profitable investigations, I’ve managed to accumulate more than 25 valuable decorations. It’s a good idea to regularly check your map and also look out for quests or SOS signals posted by other players. These may offer substantial rewards.
Occasionally, the specific decorative item you’ve been eagerly searching for seems nowhere to be found. In such instances, blending (or merging) could prove quite useful.

How to meld decorations
To melt a Sword Orb, it requires 4 points, 10 points, or 120 points respectively, while an Armor Orb needs 4 points, 10 points, or 60 points as they become more rare. To perform this action, make your way to Wyverian Melding, choose the orb you want, and then insert your extra trinkets.
When you want to combine a particular decoration item, you’ll first have the option to merge only its basic version. Each decoration requires 20 points for merging, which you can accomplish by choosing “Meld Decorations” during your conversation with Vio.
Reaching Hunter Rank 100 will grant you access to combine Tier 2 Decorations, requiring 80 points individually. It’s unclear at the moment if advancing beyond rank 100 will enable the use of Tier 3 Decorations, but I’ll look into it and inform you accordingly for this guide update.
In Chapter 3-3, you gain the ability to blend, which happens when you’re instructed to visit Vio the Blender in Suja. With her blending pot at your disposal, you can either mix more orbs or blend particular decorations that you desire.
To work with the melding pot, it’s essential to utilize collected decorations or uncommon equipment materials such as Sild Cotton and Great Hornfly. However, I suggest avoiding using any rare materials since they are more valuable for trading or crafting exclusive armor sets. Instead, opt for decorations that you can spare.
How to equip decorations
Farming for decorative items may seem tedious at times, but luckily the process of placing them onto your armor is straightforward.
- Either head to Gemma at the Smithy or into your tent at any Base Camp or Pop-up Camp
- Tab over to the Equipment Menu, then select Change Equipment
- On a controller, hit right on the d-pad to bring up the decorations menu
- Select a slot on your weapon or armor to bring up your list of available decorations
- Choose one and it’ll slot itself into your gear
It’s worth noting that these decorations come in three distinct levels. The number of triangles at the base of each ornament serves as a quick visual guide, and you can also identify them by the number listed at the end of each decoration.
The fact that not every piece of equipment allows a level three decoration insertion should be noted; however, you can still insert a level one decoration into a level three slot. I wouldn’t advise doing so, but the option is there. In High Rank, beta armor tends to offer higher rarity decoration slots at the expense of fewer skills compared to alpha armor. Therefore, it’s crucial to consider your choices carefully and decide what suits your build best.
Additionally, feel free to try out various approaches. Changing your armor’s embellishments won’t cost you a thing. You have the liberty to adjust them at your leisure, allowing you to tinker with diverse playstyles until you discover the ideal mix of abilities that suits your style.
