On a Wednesday in Milan, the Fall/Winter 2025 fashion show by Jil Sander wasn’t just an aesthetically pleasing event; unbeknownst to the audience, the runway signified the farewell act for the creative directors, Lucie and Luke Meier, of the German luxury brand.
Moments after the runway show’s finale, I received a brief announcement from Jil Sander: “Jil Sander and its Creative Directors, Lucie and Luke Meier, have jointly decided that this collection marks the end of our collaborative journey.” The brand hasn’t revealed who will take over from the dynamic duo yet.
Renzo Rosso, head of OTB Group (who acquired the Jil Sander brand in April 2021), expressed gratitude towards Lucie and Luke for their “forward-thinking ideas, commitment to quality, and unwavering loyalty to the brand.
For eight years, the design team masterfully steered the brand, embodying its creator’s contemporary minimalist vision. They achieved this by focusing on meticulous tailoring, luxurious fabrics, and shapes that transcend traditional gender boundaries. The designers expressed their sincere appreciation to OTB and the Jil Sander staff for their unwavering dedication, passion, and skill in this endeavor. They take pride in the work they’ve done with such a fantastic group of people. A special mention was made to Mr. Rosso in the statement.

In a fitting manner, the Meiers’ last runway show was, according to them, “a powerful symbol of love.” The somber stage setup with black curtains and Benji B’s brooding composition allowed the designers’ creations to shine brilliantly. Coats made from black-tipped and blue shearling fur, as well as airy kilts, handcrafted alpaca knitwear, velvet, taffeta, silk, and sequin pieces, all stood out. When combined, these materials seemed to exist in a harmonious yet tense balance – a deliberate exploration by Lucie and Luke that showcased their exceptional skill with textures.
The Meiers, who served as Jil Sander’s creative directors for a long time, skillfully developed a unique design style for the brand without losing sight of its heritage. This is a challenging task in today’s fashion industry, where there’s a constant shuffle among designers, as evident in the game of musical chairs that’s commonplace. Despite their final collection deviating slightly from the brand’s traditional minimalism, it retained a luxurious feel, aligning perfectly with Jil Sander’s refined collection history. That’s the Meier’s signature style.
There’s been a lot of chatter that Luke and Lucie might become the new creative leaders at LOEWE, with Jonathan Anderson reportedly planning to leave his position soon. However, no formal confirmation has been given regarding these speculations. Moreover, fueling the fashion gossip even further, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, designers from Proenza Schouler in the past, are said to be in discussions about taking over LOEWE. For now, everything remains uncertain; keep an eye on TopMob for updates as more information becomes public.
