Horror Mockbuster ‘The Jolly Monkey’ Trailer Unleashes Terrifying Secrets!

The Asylum unveiled the teaser for their upcoming horror film, titled “Jovial Ape“, which is a spoof movie inspired by Osgood Perkins’ “The Monkey”.

In simpler terms, The Asylum is a film company that produces and distributes movies, often called “mockbusters,” which are low-cost films launched around the same time as big Hollywood blockbusters. For instance, in 2024, they released a movie titled The Twisters, following closely behind Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters when it premiered in cinemas.

What happens in The Jolly Monkey trailer?

In the preview for “The Jolly Monkey,” we find a pair of siblings embarking on a project to revitalize a dilapidated motel from their childhood. However, their endeavor takes a perilous turn when they stumble upon an antique monkey toy that seems to hold secrets connected to their family history.

After our mother’s passing, Jenny and I, Marshall, come back to restore our dilapidated motel, The Jolly Monkey. However, as we remodel, a sinister power connected to our family’s haunting past resurfaces, compelling us to confront horrifying realities if we hope to make it alive.

In U.S. cinemas now is the movie “Neon’s The Monkey,” which shares a similar plot as it focuses on twin brothers, Hal and Bill (portrayed by Theo James and Christian Convery respectively), who discover a monkey-shaped toy that mysteriously causes the deaths of people they care about in strange and gruesome manners. This film boasts an impressive cast including Tatiana Maslany, Colin O’Brien, Elijah Wood, among others.

On February 28, 2025, the movie “The Jolly Monkey” will be screened in a limited number of theaters across the United States. The locations include Laemmle Glendale in Glendale, California; Aurora Cineplex in Roswell, Georgia; Film Noir Cinema in Brooklyn, New York; Hickory Ridge Cinemas in Brunswick, Ohio; and Trylon Cinema in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Jolly Monkey will then be available On Demand on March 1, 2025.
