The ongoing public legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has taken another twist, as Lively’s representatives have accused Baldoni of showing disregard towards other victims referred to in the case.
As reported by Deadline, Lively’s legal team aims to minimize public exposure of the case details, particularly those involving other women named in the lawsuit. They are seeking a protective order to restrict access to certain case details, allowing only lawyers to view the related information. Despite their intention to testify, these women may be limited in sharing the case details with others outside the legal sphere.
In reaction to the issue at hand, attorney Mitchell Schuster attempted to minimize the necessity of protective measures, criticizing Lively’s team for amplifying the situation further.
In a letter to Judge Liman, Schuster expressed surprise that despite actively promoting and pursuing Ms. Lively’s claims in the media, it appears she now strongly opposes making crucial evidence accessible to the public.
Regarding Schuster’s letter, Lively’s legal group, headed by attorney Michael Gottlieb, countered with a point that Baldoni’s team has inflicted more harm on them via social media.
Gottlieb pointed out that it’s disappointing to see the Wayfarer Parties disregard and disrespect a woman advocating for fundamental workplace protections against sexual harassment. Their stance, which suggests that a woman who speaks up about sexual harassment has given up her privacy rights, highlights the futility of any future negotiations.
Lively’s initial complaint alleges that Baldoni created a hostile work environment
The entire situation arises from a formal grievance Lively filed against Baldoni in December. In the complaint, she detailed how working conditions on the set of “It Ends With Us” became increasingly hostile. During a critical meeting convened to address her concerns, Lively requested that Baldoni cease sharing explicit videos or pictures of women with her, stop discussing his history with pornography, stop talking about sexual encounters in her presence, and furthermore, stop commenting on her weight.
The grievance further states that Wayfarer Studios allegedly agreed with the cast, including Blake Lively, to emphasize her character’s strength and resilience rather than portraying the movie as a narrative about domestic violence. However, Lively alleges that Baldoni went back on this agreement by discussing in interviews the film’s serious theme instead.
In the documentation provided by Lively, it’s stated that Baldoni and his public relations manager, Melissa Nathan, allegedly brainstormed strategies for a social media smear campaign intended to damage Lively’s reputation. The filing contains approximately 22 pages of text exchanges between Baldoni’s representative and Nathan, where they express a desire to “bury” Lively online.
