Jeremy Allen White Reportedly Passes on Sgt. Rock DCU Role

Jeremy Allen White reportedly won’t star in the Sgt. Rock DCU movie.

Director Luca Guadagnino, famous for films like Call Me by Your Name (2017) and Challengers (2024), is currently developing a Sgt. Rock film for DC Studios. Previously, it had been announced that Daniel Craig would portray the main character in this movie; however, he recently stepped away from the project around early this month.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “I’m stepping away from this game, and people are asking why. Some say my real-life schedule had conflicts with my partner’s, another actress named Rachel Weisz. Others claim that the role I was playing didn’t live up to expectations, neither in terms of box office performance nor award recognition, which left a sour taste for me.

According to reports from Deadline, neither James Gunn nor Peter Safran have ever discussed the role of Sgt. Rock with Craig, as he was not officially connected to the part.

After Craig left, Jeremy Allen White became the leading candidate to fill his position. According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, White has been presented with an offer for the role of Sgt. Rock; however, doubts have been raised about whether he will accept it due to possible scheduling conflicts and salary concerns.

What is the new Sgt. Rock casting update?

As reported by Sneider in The InSneider, White has relinquished the role of Sgt. Rock. At present, the motives behind his decision are not entirely clear, but Sneider speculates that it could be due to White’s discomfort with being the second choice for his debut in a significant comic book film.

At present, there’s no news about the casting for the upcoming Sgt. Rock movie. Although it appeared to be gearing up for production this summer, a specific release date has not been confirmed yet. The screenplay for the film is penned by Justin Kuritzkes, known for his work on Challengers and Queer.

Safran has expressed his admiration for Sgt. Rock because it allows for the telling of a captivating and distinctive story about bravery and struggle. He credits Justin’s exceptional screenplay as the reason this project has gained prominence.
