How To Start The White Roebuck Task

Following the successful completion of the mission titled “Speak of the Devil,” I, as a player, will discover myself in the ominous location known as “Devil’s Den.” If I wish to immediately embark on this task, I can quickly teleport back to Suchdol. Navigate towards the compact castle situated to the north of Suchdol – it’s the same place where I previously encountered Margrave Jobst of Luxembourg in the main quest. In this very castle, you’ll find “Hunter Dobrosh Pecker” either near the entrance or busy butchering a deer to the left of the smithy.

Inquire from the hunter about the disturbing situation in the forest, and he’ll inform you that there are illegal poachers who have tragically slain a rare albino roebuck. There’s a reward for capturing these poachers, and the hunter urges your assistance in tracking them down and apprehending them. He additionally asks you to retrieve the poacher’s hide, along with squirrel tails, as each of these items is being carried by the poachers.

Finding The Poachers In The White Roebuck Task

Make your way to the cemetery where you’ll find the ‘knacker’. He typically works there. Approach the designated marker and interact with Wolfram. Inquire about the poachers’ whereabouts, but he might be reluctant to share much. You can encourage him by offering 200 Groschen or passing one of three Speech checks. Mentioning his name kindly to the huntsman is often effective in getting information from him. Once you learn about the poachers, Wolfram will propose a higher reward if you bring the white hide to him instead of the hunter.

Following our chat, pull up your map and navigate towards the spot marked as the search area. Keep your eyes peeled while you travel, since bandits could be hiding in the forest entrances, planning to ambush and plunder unwary voyagers like yourself. There’s an enemy camp positioned to the left of the marker right smack in the middle of the search area. Make your way there, and you’ll likely encounter three poachers wandering about the camp. You have a couple of options for dealing with these poachers when you come across them.

It’s not wise to confront all three ill-prepared poachers simultaneously since a side blow could trigger a series of attacks that could prove fatal. Fortunately, none of the poachers carry long-range weapons, so a one-versus-three battle isn’t entirely out of reach—but it’s still quite challenging. A more practical approach would be to wait for nightfall and silently eliminate them one by one. If you can infiltrate their camp, you could also contaminate their food with a Lullaby Potion, causing them to fall asleep quicker and leaving them defenseless.

Instead of waiting for nightfall, consider distracting one poacher from the camp and handling him separately to minimize reinforcements. Once that’s done, proceed towards the camp, use stealth to eliminate another, and engage the final poacher in a direct confrontation. Given your proficiency in Masterful Strikes, this fight should not prove too challenging.

Make certain to search each poacher thoroughly as they will likely have a squirrel tail typical of a poacher, and don’t forget to grab any additional items they might be carrying, such as the specific item one of them is known to have.
