Rob Liefeld, one of Deadpool’s co-creators, appears to be escalating his dispute with Kevin Feige, as he recently urged Marvel Studios to part ways with their creative leader due to the lackluster box office results of Captain America 4. Liefeld made these remarks shortly after announcing that he has decided to completely cut ties with Marvel, following a lengthy struggle with the comic book giants.
Rob Liefeld takes another swing at Kevin Feige, wants him gone from Marvel
The well-known cartoonist shared his views on Feige’s role in the less successful critical and commercial response to Captain America: Brave New World, via social media platforms.
In response to a thread discussing a 82.4% decrease in the second weekend’s domestic box office earnings for Captain America 4, Rob Liefeld commented, “It’s time to remove Feige from the pitch. He’s exhausted his ideas.”
Previously, Liefeld, renowned for co-creating Deadpool with Fabian Nicieza and Cable with Louise Simonson, openly criticized Marvel Studios’ President for his treatment towards comic book creators. He expressed, “In my opinion, Kevin Feige doesn’t handle comic book creators kindly.
Currently, Captain America 4 featuring Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford is facing an unforeseen dip in ticket sales at the box office, according to Deadline. However, the film has managed to gather a commendable global revenue of approximately $289.4 million so far.
Despite an impressive start, the movie “Captain America: Brave New World” experienced a significant dip in its second week at cinemas, surpassing the decrease seen by other Marvel Cinematic Universe films like Deadpool, Wolverine, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This film has not been well-received by professional critics, with a low Rotten Tomatoes score of 49%.
After leaving the large entertainment companies, Rob Liefeld’s farewell work was Deadpool Team-Up #5, which was released in February, marking his departure from Marvel Comics. Additionally, the experienced writer has also ended his association with Marvel’s film division, making Deadpool & Wolverine his last project for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
