Netflix’s current political thriller “Zero Day,” headlined by Robert De Niro, is generating buzz for more than just its high-profile actors. This series, launched on February 20, 2025, has garnered interest due to its striking resemblance to recent events in the U.S. presidential election politics.
In “Zero Day,” Robert De Niro plays George Mullen, a former U.S. president who emerges from retirement to delve into a major cyberattack. The series’ plotline revolves around an older ex-president, who seems to have some cognitive challenges and decides not to seek re-election, thereby clearing the path for a Black female candidate to secure the presidency.
The quick turnaround of the show’s development is causing surprise, given that it was already in production since November 2022 and Netflix gave it the go-ahead on March 1, 2023. This rapid timeline suggests that the show was essentially created around 16 months before President Joe Biden’s unexpected decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race and Vice President Kamala Harris being named the Democratic candidate without undergoing any primary elections.
Netflix’s forthcoming series “Zero Day” focuses on an ex-president, now elderly and struggling with dementia, who surprisingly chooses not to seek re-election, creating an opportunity for a Black woman to secure the presidency.
The show had been in development since November 2022.

The similarities between the storyline of the show and real-life events are quite evident. In July 2024, President Biden, under increasing scrutiny regarding his age and health, decided to step down from the presidency, making him the first incumbent president since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968 to do so. He then endorsed Vice President Harris, who subsequently won the Democratic Party’s nomination.
It’s worth mentioning that although the show is purely fictional, its similarities to real-life situations have caught the attention of viewers and analysts. Some speculate that it could provide a sneak peek into possible future scenarios, such as a Harris presidency, or in a more ominous viewpoint, serve as “predicted programming.” This term was initially proposed by Alan Watt, who suggested that fiction isn’t merely for entertainment but can be used as a means of social engineering. For instance, a movie portraying a global pandemic could make viewers more accepting of lockdowns or vaccinations later, or a series about surveillance might make mass data collection seem imminent. The idea is that by embedding these ideas in our collective consciousness, the public may be less likely to challenge or resist when they become reality.
Isn’t it just an amusing coincidence? It seems as if every fictional series we see is subtly reflecting the storylines they aim to promote in reality. Nowadays, Hollywood appears less about entertainment and more about pre-emptive brainwashing – or predictive programming.

The resemblance between real-life events and Netflix’s series “Zero Day” has fueled questions about the streaming service having inside knowledge about future political occurrences. Could it be that they had insider information, or was it just an astonishingly accurate depiction of life unfolding? Eric Newman, executive producer and co-creator of “Zero Day,” shared that their approach to scriptwriting deviated from the conventional thriller method of outlining the ending first. This revelation only intensifies the mystery surrounding the uncanny similarities.
The TV series ‘Zero Day’ serves as an intriguing exploration where entertainment meets politics. In a seemingly intentional or coincidental manner, it skillfully merges fact and fiction, prompting audiences to question the essence of truth amidst today’s intricate political terrain.
All we want to know is, what did Netflix know, and when did they know it?
