Hazelight Studios & EA share full details on Split Fiction’s Friend’s Pass

Hazelight Studios is known for creating engaging cooperative games that foster social connections, and they’re further cementing this reputation by making gameplay seamless for players. For their upcoming game, Split Fiction, they’ve reintroduced the “Friend’s Pass” feature. This allows you to purchase the game and invite a friend to join in without any additional costs for your friend.

This week, Electronic Arts and Hazelight Studios revealed comprehensive information about their collaboration with Split Fiction in a fresh game trailer. The Friend’s Pass system allows two players to enjoy Split Fiction without individually purchasing the game. One person purchases the game, after which they can extend a Friend’s Pass to another player. This invitee simply downloads the Friend’s Pass app on their preferred platform (the game supports crossplay), and then the owner of Split Fiction sends them an invitation.

In a departure from typical practices when launching multiplayer games, Hazelight Studios implemented the Friend’s Pass feature with It Takes Two. Instead of requiring players worldwide to purchase two separate copies for cooperative play, only one copy was needed, allowing multiple players to share the experience. This move, among other factors, earned the game high acclaim from us. Despite concerns that it might halve sales, It Takes Two still managed to sell an impressive 20 million copies.

Starting soon, the Friend’s Play option will be available in Split Fiction. This means that players can look forward to experiencing the game together, similar to how they enjoyed It Takes Two, when Split Fiction releases on March 6, 2025. Keep an eye on our Split Fiction updates for more information as we approach the game’s launch date.
