Siding with Mihala in Avowed: The Better Choice for Rewards and Roleplaying

The primary narrative of Avowed presents many crucial decisions, such as deciding between Mihala or Kostya at Solace Keep. Initially, it seems like a challenging choice: Mihala adheres rigidly to tradition, which inadvertently harms her people, but she comes across as morally upright. On the other hand, Kostya is cunning and wishes to sell his ancestral home to Aedyr and the Steel Garrote. However, he claims this move will assist his malnourished population.

As I delved deeper into the quest “Our Dreams Divide Us Still” in Avowed, the distinctions between my choices became more evident, particularly between siding with Kostya or Mihala. It appears that one of these paths offers a superior outcome, considering both role-playing factors and the potential rewards it brings. There might be instances where you’d want to choose another route, but for most gamers, the decision seems crystal clear when weighing the pros and cons between these two factions.

What Happens If You Leave Kostya Alone

Siding With Kostya Destroys Solace Keep

If you choose to support Kostya, he plans to bring down Solace Keep. His reasoning is that this action would push his people out of their current state and back into the wider Living Lands. Although his goals might initially appear noble, Kostya is making this choice without giving due consideration to the opinions of other Pargrunen residing in Solace Keep. It’s important to note that many inhabitants are content where they are, and forcibly relocating them without their consent could be perceived as unkind. Furthermore, the dangers lurking in the Living Lands make it a precarious place for people who have already suffered significant losses.

From a practical point of view, choosing to align with Kostya may not yield significant benefits. After Solace Keep is demolished, it will no longer be reachable by you; however, its merchants can still be found in a nearby encampment. Kostya doesn’t provide any specific incentive for supporting him, so the only real reason to do so would be if you believe strongly that Kostya is righteous or are curious about what might transpire when the Keep is destroyed.

What Happens If You Side With Mihala

Siding With Mihala Saves Solace Keep And Gives You Unique Gear

Choosing Mihala’s side ensures Solace Keep’s safety, but also prepares you for a battle against Kostya. If your character is around levels 20-25 and wielding Superb or Legendary weapons, the encounter with Kostya and his two lieutenants should be manageable. Upon victory, you can plunder Kostya for the rare armor piece, Councilor’s Garb (Legendary Unique), as well as the unique footwear, Councilor’s Shoes.

The Counselor’s Robe enhances Stealth Attack Damage by 50%, offers a 5% damage reduction, and an extra 3 points of damage reduction. The basic stats are also decent, providing 5% damage reduction, 70 additional damage reduction, and only deducting 20 Stamina and 10 Essence. If you don’t use Light Armor or have a better set for your character, you can instead upgrade it to Dragon Hide and Adra Bán. The Counselor’s Footwear increases maximum Essence by 15, boosts Dodge Distance by 25%, and adds 2 points to your Dexterity score.

If you opt to chat with Mihala following your rescue of Solace Keep, she’ll reward you with a special shield known as the Bastion of Solace. This is a remarkable Legendary shield that boosts your maximum Health and Stamina, and provides a 25% chance of dealing Fire Damage to any adversary you block with it. Similar to Councilor Garb, this item can be dismantled for useful Upgrade Material if you find it unnecessary.

By standing with Mihala, she will join you later during the “Siege of Paradis” mission when interacting with the leaders of the Living Lands. As with all significant story choices, this decision will be one of the key factors other characters use to evaluate you. Therefore, consider carefully which path is best for you.

Which Is The Better Choice

Siding With Mihala Has More Benefits

Opting for Mihala’s alliance seems to be the wiser decision in the long run, offering numerous gameplay benefits. For instance, it grants access to Solace Keep and presents useful items. The Councilor Garb and Shoes are among the best gear for Rangers in the game ‘Avowed’. Adra Bán, a scarce and precious resource, is another advantage you’ll gain by siding with Mihala. Although the Scavenger Ability reduces the cost, purchasing Adra Bán from a merchant would still require over 16,000 Skeyts.

The decision becomes somewhat obvious as Avowed hints its stance prior to your choice, implying that choosing Mihara aligns with moral goodness. Although Kostya might appear as a feasible option from a roleplay perspective initially, his association with the Steel Garrote raises significant concerns. His disregard for the wellbeing of his people and potential destruction of the Keep, coupled with this alliance, are clear warning signs. If your allegiance leans towards Lödwyn, then backing Kostya seems logical, otherwise, Mihala stands out as the apparent choice.
