WWE Superstar Ricky Saints Discusses AEW Tenure & Departure

Ricky Starks, who is now going by the name Ricky Saints in WWE NXT, has expressed his thoughts about his time spent working under Tony Khan’s promotion. Prior to leaving, AEW kept him out of sight on television for almost eleven months, with his last match being shown in March 2024.

A couple of weeks back, it was verified that AEW freed Saints from his contract. Afterward, there was an unexpected appearance by him on WWE NXT last week, which was met with a huge cheer. Last night, during his contract signing, we learned that he will be known as Ricky Saints in WWE from now on.

On Busted Open Radio with Bully Ray, Ricky Saints recently discussed his time in AEW. He confessed that while he can’t pinpoint a specific instance where things started going awry, he believes the departure of CM Punk could have had an impact on the situation.

He explained, “I’m not able to pinpoint the specific instance, but you could describe it as Punk departing, and things started to unravel. Yes, I think I concur with your assessment. Alternatively, you might say Ricky lacked sufficient political skills. Indeed, there are numerous ways to put it. However, what I can confirm is that when I got injured in March, that was the end for me. I didn’t recover; it was a precautionary measure where fear set in because of a stinger.

He went on to say, “Subsequently, I was all right. Following that, no luck. No contact. Nothing at all. And that’s alright since I wound up in this place. And it’s fine. Things have turned out well. I can’t pinpoint specifically where things went awry, I can’t single out one event. However, I could have potentially done something to raise suspicions. For instance, seeking my release at some point – that might have been it, wouldn’t you agree? Yet, there was never a moment when I wasn’t ready to cooperate. There was never a time when I intentionally undermined anything.

Ricky Saints claims AEW veterans “stuck their nose” in his storylines

Ricky Saints discussed the reasons behind his AEW exit and confessed that some established figures intruded in his creative process, which wasn’t appropriate. He put it this way: “Let me make one thing clear: there were certain individuals who meddled in my creative affairs who had no business doing so. These were veterans. And that’s all I’ll say about it. If they have an issue with me, they can simply text me directly.

The Saints stated, “It seems they let go of those who didn’t fit creatively. That’s how I perceive it, but I don’t want to sound pessimistic. If climbing the career ladder means stepping on someone else, that’s okay as long as everyone aims for a distinguished career. However, I’m not naive.
