After much anticipation, it’s been announced that the Street Fighter live-action film by Legendary will be directed by Kitao Sakurai. This adaptation of Capcom’s popular fighting game franchise is set to hit theaters in March 2026.
As a gaming enthusiast, I recently caught wind that Legendary Entertainment has sealed a deal with Kitao Sakurai, who’s now set to helm their upcoming Street Fighter movie. This project was first announced way back in 2023, and originally, the dynamic duo Danny and Michael Philippou of Talk To Me were slated to direct. However, they parted ways with the project last year.
Among his accolades is the 2021 comedy “Bad Trip,” a film featuring Eric Andre, whom Kitao has collaborated with extensively, having worked together on more than sixty episodes of “The Eric Andre Show.
The upcoming Street Fighter film is yet to reveal any details about its cast or storyline, but it’s scheduled to hit theaters on March 20, 2026.
