In 2020, the entertainment sector found itself aligning with the Marxist progressive movement, a shift that became particularly evident during what was dubbed the “summer of love”. This period saw widespread protests, led largely by far-left activists, which unfortunately resulted in numerous city destructions across the United States. In response to these events, a trend of censorship emerged nationwide, with individuals and groups seeking to rewrite history according to their perspective. For instance, names of military bases were changed, as were the names of mountains due to their historical associations. Books, both digital and physical, were forced to undergo modifications, while children’s literature was edited. Moreover, sensitivity readers were enlisted to identify more books that might be considered problematic, all in the name of progress.
The popular entertainment sector wasn’t immune to change, as comedians faced cancellations, comic books underwent modifications, video games were altered to suit modern taste, and so on. Various industries felt the impact of this cultural shift. In the midst of widespread censorship, certain episodes of TV shows were either edited or removed from streaming platforms to please public pressure.
Episode 14 of Community‘s second season, titled “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons,” was affected by the censorship wave and edited in the year 2020.
The reason why the episode was censored was reported by comicbook.com:
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my surprise when encountering descriptions of “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.” You might question the reason for any ban, but let me tell you about an intriguing episode that unfolded something quite unexpected.
At the onset of this campaign, a character entered the scene shrouded in mysterious dark black paint, from head to toe – none other than Ken Jeong’s Chang. His entrance left both viewers and his fellow players utterly astounded. It wasn’t just his enigmatic appearance that caught our attention; he claimed to be a “dark elf,” sending shockwaves through the gaming table.
This unexpected twist made the game all the more captivating, as we were left wondering what other surprises this campaign had in store for us.
Here is the offensive image that had pinkos clutching their pearls back in 2020.
Among all episodes of Community, this one holds a special place in my heart, an episode I take pride in owning on DVD. Now, even those who haven’t watched it yet can enjoy the uncensored version on Peacock.
Also reported by comicbook.com:
Great news for fans! By 2024, it’s no longer necessary to search far and wide to watch “Community” as all six seasons are now available on Peacock. Interestingly, this is also where the upcoming Community movie will be shown. Previously, the show was taken off Netflix and Hulu.
It’s exciting to hear that Disney is retracting, or “walking back,” the embarrassing content warnings they had placed on some of their classic films. This change brings a sense of relief and nostalgia for many viewers.
As also reported by the Daily Wire:
On the public-interaction front, Disney has decided to modify its messaging for older films like “Dumbo” and “Peter Pan”. These films have been flagged with content warnings due to their portrayal of certain groups or cultures that some may find offensive. Currently, viewers are informed that these timeless movies contain negative depictions or mistreatment of specific peoples or cultures.
However, based on two internal reports, it’s likely that the revised guidance will provide a broader caution, stating something like, “The content of this program reflects its original creation and could include stereotypes or negative portrayals.
For me, this transformation isn’t a major shift, which is why I remain cautious about the alleged change in Disney’s stance.
It’s great news that ‘Community’ episodes are back on streaming platforms, suggesting a potential mend in our cultural fabric after the impact of Marxist Cultural Revolution. Yet, it’s crucial to remember that the struggle isn’t over yet. We’ve recently learned about the censorship of the beloved Crocodile Dundee, even with Paul Hogan’s approval, which underscores the ongoing fight for freedom in entertainment.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that while “Scrubs” can be streamed on Peacock, some episodes have reportedly had offensive jokes edited out or removed altogether.
So clearly we still have work to do.
