Creature Commandos Season 2 Update Hints at Release Date Window

The eagerly awaited second season of “Creature Commandos” is approaching, and it might even hit our screens ahead of what some fans may have anticipated. Dean Lorey, writer and showrunner, shared a thrilling update regarding the release date for this highly praised animated series. Conceived by DCU co-head James Gunn, “Creature Commandos” made its debut on Max on December 5, 2024, and secured a second season soon afterwards – even before the first season had completed its run.

DC’s Creature Commandos Season 2 could release next year

Dean Lorey recently mentioned in an interview that Creature Commandos Season 2 is moving forward at a swift pace. It’s worth noting that Lorey, likewise the co-creator of Harley Quinn, is involved with another Max animated series inspired by DC Comics.

Indeed, progress is being made, though it’s still in the initial stages. We’re diligently working towards overcoming the seasonal challenges. The project seems to be moving quickly, and I believe they are committed to this pace. So, yes, we’re actively involved.

Lorey didn’t give a specific release date for the second season, but it’s known that Creature Commandos is adapted from the DC comic book team created by J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick. Gunn submitted scripts for the series towards the end of 2022. The project marked the start of the DC Universe. Reports surfaced in early 2023 stating that production was underway, and Season 1 premiered on December 5, 2024, airing seven episodes until January 9, 2025. Given this timeline, it’s possible that Season 2 might debut as soon as 2026.

During the same interview, Lorey hinted at the potential members of the Creature Commandos team in Season 2. When asked if some new characters might significantly contribute to the upcoming season, Lorey responded cautiously, saying it was “fairly close to the mark.” He elaborated, “What I mean is, those are all characters we believe would be exciting for the season. Plus, James [Gunn] wrote all the episodes last season, and his instincts are reliable. So, yes, I’d say there’s that, and honestly, I can’t imagine doing a season without a more powerful GI Robot.”
