John Cena, a professional wrestler who’s held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship an impressive 16 times, is renowned for his long-standing career spanning over two decades. On the January 6th episode of RAW, which also marked its debut on Netflix, Cena commenced his farewell tour, signaling the beginning of his retirement.
Amidst much excitement over his farewell tour, John Cena experienced a setback when he didn’t clinch the Royal Rumble. After the defeat, he disclosed his next plan, confirming that he would participate in the Elimination Chamber bout. Cena declared his intention to achieve his 17th title and guarantee himself a prominent spot at WrestleMania 41.
As a passionate gamer (and a fan of the WWE universe), I’ve always kept tabs on John Cena’s incredible 16 world titles, a number he shares with the legendary Ric Flair. With the dream of clinching that elusive 17th World Heavyweight Championship and breaking Flair’s longstanding record, it’s become an exciting debate among us fans. Recently, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray weighed in, sharing his thoughts on why it seems almost inevitable that Cena will have the chance to shatter Ric Flair’s historic record within the WWE.
Bully Ray breaks down why WWE may push John Cena for his 17th world title
On Busted Open Radio, I (as a fan) found myself nodding in agreement as Bully Ray talked about how excited WWE might be to claim John Cena as one of their own. He emphasized that Cena is a WWE-born superstar, and I can see why they’d be thrilled. He put it this way: “It seems like the WWE can hardly wait to boast that their very own creation—a man they nurtured in OVW (WWE’s developmental territory), who rose to become one of the greatest pro wrestlers and a face on many people’s Mount Rushmore, now holds the title of the most decorated World Heavyweight Champion ever. The WWE gets to take all the credit for this incredible achievement. … It’s only natural that the WWE would want their creations to outshine any others.” [H/T: WrestlingInc]
WWE has consistently valued its home-grown talents, and it’s intriguing to consider their strategy as they aim for John Cena to capture his 17th World Championship. His upcoming destination is the Elimination Chamber in Toronto, where he’ll strive to secure a shot at the World Title. Can he conquer the obstacles ahead? Only future events will reveal the answer.
