After introducing the Pilot’s Watch Mark XX, IWC has revealed another unique timepiece in anticipation of the upcoming Formula 1 season: The Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL Toto Wolff. Originally seen off the racetrack and worn by Toto Wolff, CEO of Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, this timepiece is specifically designed to endure the harsh conditions of motorsport.
The 44mm watch is adorned in shades reminiscent of PETRONAS green, fashioned meticulously from Ceratanium® – an exclusive blend of titanium and ceramic materials, utilized for both the case and the crown. Inside lies a dial with a rough, etched texture in black, complemented by triangular hands that glow in dimly lit conditions to ensure readability.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to highlight an outstanding aspect of this watch – it boasts the innovative SPRIN-g PROTECT® shock absorber system by IWC, first unveiled in 2021 with the Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL. This remarkable feature bolsters movement shock protection by employing a cantilever spring, crafted from bulk metallic glass (BMG). This sturdy spring acts as a cushion within the case, absorbing and dispersing high g-forces resulting from physical impacts, ensuring a more robust and resilient performance.
This modern watch operates on the self-made caliber 32101, providing a remarkable power reserve of 120 hours. Peeking inside at the movement is made possible through a tinted sapphire crystal caseback, and it comes equipped with a green rubber band that seamlessly integrates into its design.
