Matt Damon Stars as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

Universal Pictures has revealed the initial glimpse of Matt Damon portraying Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s eagerly awaited version of The Odyssey. This is Nolan’s first project since his award-winning film, Oppenheimer, and it represents their third joint venture with Damon.

The impressive lineup of actors for this production features Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, among others. However, the details about their respective roles have yet to be revealed. It is said that filming started this month, with the main scenes being shot on the Aeolian Islands in Sicily – a region steeped in mythology, having connections to Odysseus’ legendary travels.

The movie is anticipated to portray the majesty of Odysseus’ famous journey, featuring his interactions with mythical beings, divine influences, and dangerous challenges on his path back to Ithaca. Using his distinctive mix of thought-provoking narratives and grand visual effects, Nolan intends to modernize one of history’s most significant literary masterpieces for today’s viewers.

The Odyssey is set to premiere in theaters on July 17, 2026.
