As you wander through the lively marketplaces of Paradis within the game Avowed, you may accidentally encounter a skilled alchemist named Sapiento. He’ll present you with an unexpected challenge, requesting assistance from you. However, the question remains: Is this the proper decision to make?

Upon encountering Sapiento, you’ll notice him voicing discontent, engrossed in contemplation regarding his recent scientific endeavor.

As I delve deeper into this virtual world, I’m discovering he’s brewing a potion to revive the devastated ecosystem, a victim of the Dreamscourge. It’s a commendable endeavor, but there’s a snag – he can’t seem to find Luminous Adra, an essential component.

Originally, Sapiento dispatched a team to acquire the Adra, but events took an unexpected turn. Now, it falls upon you to procure the Luminous Adra, and I’ll guide you on how to do so, as well as advise whether Captain Bardatto or Sapiento should receive it in the end.

How to retrieve the Luminous Adra

To get the Shimmering Adra, make your way by swimming from the southernmost point of Ondra’s Reach to Castol’s Folly. Upon arrival, search for some stone outcroppings that you can use as stepping stones to ascend the mountain.

You’ll encounter a gang of outlaws that need to be handled first. After dealing with them, refrain from rushing off just yet. Instead, ascend the mountain to your left to uncover a hidden treasure chest, and clear the prickly bushes on the right-hand side to reveal another one.

There’s a third chest you can lockpick under the wooden structure near the path to the left.

Moving forward, ascend the dilapidated building, find the box next to it, and leap onto the wooden construction located south. Once you reach this level, you’ll encounter Captain Trevik.

After finding Trevik and acquiring the Luminous Adra, the true test lies ahead. Bardatto is enraged over the theft, and she demands its return. Now, you face two choices:

  1. Give the adra to Sapiento.
  2. Hand it over to Captain Bardatto.

In this situation, both options come with their own outcomes, but it’s apparent that choosing to assist Sapiento is the superior option.

Side with Sapiento

If you refuse Bardatto and keep the Adra for Sapiento, she won’t take no for an answer.

She, her followers, and an enormous bear are ready to confront you immediately. It’s a challenging battle, but if you and your allies come out on top, you’ll have the chance to plunder Bardatto and her team, earning valuable prizes.

Once the dust settles, return to Sapiento and hand over the Adra.

He’ll be incredibly pleased and will bestow upon you the extraordinary Alembic known as The Fantastic One, a distinctive token that eliminates any status boosts when you consume a potion.

Toward the end of the game, during your encounter with ‘The Siege of Paradis’, you’ll meet Sapiento once more. He’ll confess that although he failed to discover a cure for the Dreamscourge, he did develop a potent serum that could significantly advance the medical world. His research wasn’t wasted; your actions contributed to its realization.

Side with Bardatto

If you choose to give the Adra to Captain Bardatto, she’ll appreciate it, but she won’t compensate you unless you ask for a deal. However, keep in mind that any compensation she provides is relatively small when compared to what Sapiento offers.

In the meantime, Sapiento finds himself in a dismal state. The absence of Luminous Adra brings his work to a standstill. Though he may comprehend that you had to prioritize saving Trevik and his companions, there will always linger an air of what could have been. There are no extraordinary items or game-altering prizes – merely a missed chance to aid a worthy endeavor.

Precious Light quest best outcome

Choosing alliance with Sapiento during the Precious Light mission in Avowed’s storyline would seem to be the most favorable option for you, as it benefits both you personally and the advancement of science, while also ensuring a prosperous future for Paradis.

By siding with Sapiento, you:

  • Get an exciting fight against Bardatto and her goons (plus a big bear)
  • Loot Bardatto’s corpses for extra rewards
  • Earn The Fantastic Alembic, a powerful trinket
  • Help further scientific progress and create a useful medical tonic

On the other hand, giving the adra to Bardatto only results in disappointment and regret.
