Godzilla Minus One 2 Update Given, Will Have Bigger Budget Than First Movie

An update has been given for Takashi Yamazaki’s new Godzilla movie.

In December 2023, Godzilla Minus One, directed by Yamazaki, debuted in U.S. theaters. Surprisingly, this film, produced under a budget of just $15 million, turned out to be a blockbuster sensation and earned over $110 million globally at the box office.

Besides taking charge of the filmmaking process for Godzilla Minus One, Yamazaki was also responsible for penning the script and overseeing the visual effects as VFX supervisor. This groundbreaking production earned the award for Best Visual Effects at the Academy Awards in March 2024.

In November 2024, it became public knowledge that Toho has started production on a brand-new Godzilla film. Notably, Yamazaki will be back at the helm, responsible for scriptwriting, direction, and visual effects.
