Friday the 13th Prequel Series Crystal Lake Eyes Linda Cardellini for Major Role

It’s said that Linda Cardellini could be tapped for a significant part in the upcoming A24 and Peacock Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake.

Initially planned with Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller as the showrunner, Crystal Lake was later taken over by Brad Caleb Kane, who is known for It: Welcome to Derry. The series was first announced back in 2022, but Fuller departed from the project in May 2024.

Based on Jeff Sneider’s report in The InSneider, there are rumors that Cardellini might be chosen for the role of Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees, in Crystal Lake. However, it’s important to note that no official announcement or confirmation has been made yet. Nevertheless, Sneider suggests that Cardellini is highly likely to accept the offer if it comes her way.

Actress Cardellini is recognized for her roles as Velma Dinkley in both 2002’s Scooby-Doo and its sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004), and Laura Barton within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She previously played Lindsay Weir on Freaks and Geeks, and more recently appeared as Margo Starling in Netflix’s No Good Deed.

In addition to the films she’s already starred in, Cardellini has also been featured in Legally Blonde (2001), Brokeback Mountain (2005), Super (2010), A Simple Favor (2018), The Curse of La Llorona (2019), and more recently, Nutcrackers (2024). There are several other titles on her resume as well.

What else do we know about the Crystal Lake series?

At the moment, specific details about the storyline of Crystal Lake are being kept secret. However, it has been announced that Kane will join forces with Victor Miller, Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, and Robert P. Barsamian as executive producers for this project.

Since I first saw Jason Voorhees pop out a guy’s eyeball in 3D at the age of 8, I sensed my future was linked to the Man Behind The Mask. My childhood was deeply influenced by the era of slasher films, and no series epitomizes this genre more than Friday The 13th. I’m thrilled about the chance to add a new chapter to this legendary franchise, especially working alongside brave partners like Peacock and A24.

A premiere date for Crystal Lake has not yet been announced.
