Gavin O’Connor has talked to Ben Affleck about a potential The Accountant 3.
In 2016, Affleck portrayed Christian Wolff in “The Accountant,” a film helmed by O’Connor. Both Affleck and O’Connor are set to reprise their roles for “The Accountant 2,” which will make its debut at South by Southwest in March 2025, followed by a nationwide cinema release the subsequent month.
At present, an official announcement regarding The Accountant 3 is yet to be made; however, creator O’Connor is already brainstorming potential concepts for the film.
What did Gavin O’Connor say about The Accountant 3?
Speaking with Vanity Fair, O’Connor said he always wanted The Accountant to become a trilogy.
He shared, “For quite some time now, I’ve been pondering over how best to approach the third matter. In fact, this thought process has been ongoing for many years.
Although O’Connor has discussed potential plot developments with Affleck, Affleck himself is currently solely focused on the upcoming release of The Accountant 2.
Affleck clarified, “I understand that making another movie requires proving ourselves worthy again. The main risk is hoarding ideas for future films. If we fail to spark interest and generate demand during the initial release, we’ll just be performing to an empty theater.
In addition to Affleck, The Accountant 2 will bring back Jon Bernthal as Brax, J.K. Simmons as Ray King, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Marybeth Medina. However, Anna Kendrick, who portrayed Dana Cummings in the original film, won’t be returning for this sequel.
In the storyline for The Accountant 2, Christian Wolff is coaxed out of seclusion by Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina following an unidentified assassination of someone near them. To uncover the murderer, Wolff enlists the aid of his estranged yet incredibly dangerous brother Brax.
In US theaters, “The Accountant 2” is set for release on April 25, 2025, distributed by Amazon MGM Studios under Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s label.
