Monster Hunter World has proven to be an enduring cash cow for Capcom, with the action RPG consistently reporting strong sales figures seven full years following its debut.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the upcoming release of Monster Hunter Wilds is fueling this recent surge in sales. According to IGN Japan’s report, an impressive one million units of World were sold over the final three months of 2024.
As a dedicated fan, I can hardly believe that even after nearly a decade, this iconic game continues to shatter records! With its latest milestone of over 28 million copies sold worldwide, it stands tall as Capcom’s most successful release ever. Incredible, isn’t it?
Of course, once Wilds hits the shelves later this month, Capcom is likely anticipating that sales of World will eventually slow down. It’ll be intriguing to observe how well Wilds performs on its own, considering World as a point of reference.
It seems unlikely that Capcom could replicate the success of Monster Hunter: World once more with Wilds. Frankly, given how well World fit into the series’ narrative and its release on PlayStation, it seemed almost destined for greatness.
