According to reports, there’s talk of a sequel to the movie “Hitch” being developed. However, the film’s original director has confirmed that he won’t be part of it, and he also mentioned having creative differences with Will Smith during the making of the first film.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve just learned some intriguing news: The director of that 2005 flick with Will Smith, Kevin James, and Eva Mendes, Andy Tennant, has spilled the beans about a potential sequel.
It appears Will is working on a follow-up to Hitch without me, Tennant stated. I discovered this three months back. I had a strong concept for the sequel, and I was discussing it with an executive at Sony, who mentioned that Will’s production company is creating a sequel. Well, that’s just Hollywood!
The director expressed that, although there’s recent news, he has no problems with Smith. He added that working with Hitch was among the most enjoyable experiences he’s had. However, he mentioned that since the filming of the project ended, he hasn’t received any communication from the famous actor since then.
Tennant stated, “I hold no ill feelings towards Will. He’s the one who brought me on for this film project. It wasn’t an effortless task, but we traveled around the world with the movie. Even when things got tough, he’d often reassure me, ‘Just wait for the press tour; we’re going to travel the globe with this.’ True to his word, we did, and it was an incredible journey – one of the best trips I’ve ever had. However, once the tour ended, my time with Will came to a close. Since then, I haven’t received any communication from him.
Hitch director detailed different clashes with Smith
During the interview, it was disclosed by Tennant that there were frequent disagreements between him and Smith while filming the movie. As stated by the director, they both had contrasting visions for the movie, which, if realized differently, might not have resulted in the excellent film they ultimately produced.
Tennant admitted, “We encountered challenges.” He further explained, “The movie I envisioned and the one Will envisioned were not as effective as the final product we created together. It was quite a struggle. [Smith’s wife] Jada [Pinkett Smith] proved to be a significant aid. She often validated my intuitions. There was a point during preparation when I resisted a lot of questionable actions that were being proposed.
I strongly disliked a script that Will brought in for our project. Eventually, I had to express my concern to the studio, as I feared Will might end up directing that version of the movie more than they would fire me. To be honest, I was already on thin ice with them before we even started filming. Thankfully, we didn’t go ahead with that script. I don’t believe I had many supporters throughout this process.
