Naomi Watts Adopts Bill Murray’s Dog in The Friend Trailer

The first trailer for Bleecker Street’s The Friend has been released.

The Movie on Bleeker Street, titled ‘The Friend,’ is an upcoming production directed by duo David Siegel and Scott McGehee. Featuring Bill Murray and Naomi Watts in lead roles, it’s set to hit theaters across the country starting this coming April.

What is The Friend about?

In the film adaptation of the popular book titled ‘The Friend’, Iris (played by Naomi Watts) experiences a disruption in her peaceful New York lifestyle when Walter (Bill Murray), her friend and mentor, leaves his Great Dane, Apollo, to her. While Apollo, a proud yet stubborn dog, serves as a persistent reminder of Walter, he also brings about several issues. However, as Iris develops a connection with Apollo, she starts to come to terms with her past, her deceased friend, and her hidden creative self.

In addition to Watts and Murray, the film’s ensemble also features Sarah Pidgeon, Carla Gugino, Constance Wu, Noma Dumezweni, Ann Dowd, Felix Solis, Owen Teague, and Bing.

McGehee and Siegel are the screenwriters for this movie. In their previous works, they have contributed to movies like Suture (1994), The Deep End (2001), Bee Season (2005), Uncertainty (2008), What Maise Knew (2012), and most recently, Montana Story (2021).

Additionally, Siegel and McGehee, along with Liza Chasin and Mike Spreter, are the project producers. Similarly, Watts and Margaret Chernin hold the roles of executive producers.

In 2024, Watts took on the role of Babe Paley in Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. Additionally, she appeared in Infinite Storm and Goodnight Mommy in 2022. On the other hand, Murray resumed his character Dr. Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, set to release in 2024. He is also set to appear in Dito Montiel’s crime comedy film Riff Raff, slated for a theater release on February 28.

On March 28, 2025, “The Friend” will make its premiere only at movie theaters in New York City. Starting from April 4, 2025, it will be available for viewing across the country.
