What is the Friendship movie with Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd about?

In the story, we meet Tim Robinson, a typical suburban father. However, things take an unusual twist when he strikes up friendship with his mysterious new neighbor, Austin Carmichael, portrayed by Paul Rudd.

In addition to Rudd, Robinson, and Kate Mara, the movie’s cast also features Jack Dylan Grazer, Josh Segarra, and Billy Bryk. The movie made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024. Currently, it boasts an impressive 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 23 reviews.

Tim Robinson is recognized for collaborating with Netflix to create his comedy sketch series I Think You Should Leave, together with Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin. They also jointly developed the comedy series Detroiters, where he acted alongside Sam Richardson. In 2022, Robinson lent his voice to Ugly Sonic in Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers, and made an unacknowledged appearance in Scream VI in 2023. He is currently working on a new production, The Chair Company, which was accepted by HBO in September 2024, though the release date remains undisclosed at this time.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rudd portrays Scott Lang/Ant-Man. His comedic roles include Clueless (1995), Wet Hot American Summer (2001), Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and The 40-Year-Old Virgin (both in 2004), Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You, Man, Our Idiot Brother (all from the mid-2000s), and others. Alongside Friendship, he’ll appear in Death of a Unicorn, an A24 production written and directed by Alex Scharfman. This movie is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on March 28, 2025.
