At the start of “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2“, a side mission titled “Mice” is presented to you by Innkeeper Prochek in the quaint town of Tachov. He requests your assistance in painting the bull owned by Landowner Olbram from Zhelejov. However, a dilemma arises: should you complete the task and paint the bull or betray Prochek for the “Mice” mission in “Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2”?
Should you paint the bull for the Mice quest or rat out Prochek and do the Frogs quest?
In this quest line, completing either the “Rat Out Prochek” or “Paint the Bull” task will lead to the “Battle of the Frogs and Mice” side mission. However, I suggest you rat out Prochek instead of painting the bull because it results in a new quest called “Frogs.” This quest offers better rewards compared to the “Mice” quest. Here’s a breakdown of all possible outcomes and their corresponding rewards for both the “Mice” and “Frogs” quests:
– If you rat out Prochek, you will fail the “Mice” quest but gain access to the “Frogs” quest with better rewards. The “Frogs” quest rewards might include items such as gold, experience points, or unique equipment.
– If you paint the bull, you will complete the “Mice” quest and receive its associated rewards (possibly less valuable than the “Frogs” quest). However, you won’t be able to access the “Frogs” quest.
What happens if you paint the bull and complete the Mice quest?
Should you decide to support Innkeeper Prochek of Tachov, you’ll be obligated to complete the task of painting the bull. Upon receiving the mission from him, seek out Radovan the Blacksmith in Tachov who will inform you about a Slumbering Potion that can make animals unconscious. Then, journey to Tailor Bartoshek in Troskowitz where you can purchase some Scarlet Dye for 60 Groschen. If your speaking skills are high, there’s a chance you could even obtain the dye without spending any money.
Next, you’ll need to craft the Lullaby Potion at an Alchemy Bench by following this recipe:
- First, add some Oil to the cauldron.
- Next, add one Poppy (found east of Troskowitz in the garden) to the Cauldron, and flip the hourglass for one cycle.
- Then, add one Thistle (found south of the Apothecary in Troskowitz) to the Cauldron, and flip the hourglass for another cycle.
- Grind up one Herb Paris (bought from the Apothecary in Troskowitz) and add it to the Cauldron.
- Pour the Cauldron into the vial to receive a Lullaby Potion.
Making a potent Lullaby Potion means you’ll require fewer applications for success, specifically only three in total.
Lastly, make your way to Zhelejov and enter the barn where the bull lives. Locate the Stone Trough within the barn and discreetly add the Lullaby Potion there, taking care not to be noticed because this action is indeed forbidden. Remember not to overdo it; too much potion might prove fatal for the bull, causing your mission to fail entirely.
After spending a few hours, the bull will take a nap, giving you an opportunity to approach it and engage with it. Regardless of what design you decide to paint on it, the task will be accomplished. Return to Prochek, share your success, and you’ll receive 85 Groschen and some Reputation points.
What happens if you rat our Prochek instead?
It’s clear that the payoff for finishing the Mice mission isn’t impressive. If you decide to betray Prochek and inform Old Olbram about his scheme, you will instantly forfeit the Mice quest and gain access to the Frogs mission instead. For this new task, Olbram requests that you pilfer the Maypole from Tachov.
You have two choices to finish the Frogs side mission: either distract Henik from the Maypole or knock him unconscious. If you prefer the first approach, head to the Maypole and talk with Henik. He will discuss his feelings for Manka, but because he’s guarding the Maypole, they can’t meet. To help them out, select “I can take over your duties here so you two can go on a date.
At nightfall, make your way to sleep, and the following day, venture to the tavern in Tachov. There, locate Manka. Inform her that you plan to witness the Maypole celebration, which will allow her and Henik to enjoy a date. After this conversation, return to sleep until evening arrives again.
As a devoted admirer, I’ll make my way to the Maypole where Henik resides. After informing him that Manka has consented to our date, I should ensure he departs fully from the vicinity. Once Henik is out of sight and sound, it will be my turn to ascend and gather the enchanting Tachov Maypole.
As a gamer, I can choose to head over to Tacho and pay a visit to Innkeeper Prochek. There, I’ll ask about the Maypole in different ways, using all the conversation tricks I’ve got. Prochek might share his fondness for Manka too, and he’ll task me with giving Henik a good beating so he lets her go free. If I agree, I’ll wait for nightfall before sneaking up to the Maypole and chatting with Henik. I’ll probe him about his brothers, why they left, and when he plans to escape. This will make him mad, and we’ll end up having a scrap. Winning the fight knocks him out cold, at which point I can grab the Maypole.
Make your way back to Zhelejov and have a chat with Olbram to hand over the Maypole for a payment of 45 Groschen. This isn’t just about taking the alternate path, but it also presents an opportunity to cause trouble at Tachov. If you’re up for it, then go ahead and do that. Afterward, visit the Alchemist and buy a Digestive Potion. In the morning, around 8AM, proceed to the tavern and incorporate the Digestive Potion into the food being prepared. Wait until 2PM, then head to the market location on your map, near the sheep farm. You’ll likely find that Alshik is absent from there.
Approach six of the sheep in the pasture, then guide them towards the forest to the west of the sheep farm. Finishing this task fulfills the objective, but if you’d like to complete an additional goal, nudge a sheep towards some nearby laundry. This action will cause the sheep to soil the clothes. However, carrying out this extra mission may negatively impact your standing with Tachov.
Head back to Olbram at Zhelejov to wrap up the Frog’s side mission, rewarding you with 175 Groschen. No matter what option you select, you’ll now be able to undertake both the Frog and Mouse side missions.
