The much-anticipated release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is now official – August 28, 2025. For MGS enthusiasts, this news comes after what feels like an eternity. Recently, Konami unveiled the remake’s upcoming arrival. The reason behind choosing that specific date may be becoming apparent to many, considering the potential reasons for the decision.
Last year, I missed out on celebrating the anniversary of Snake Eater, but now, with its upcoming remake on the horizon, there’s a new date that only true fans will understand. Whether it’s intentional or not, I can’t say for sure, but one thing is certain – it’s still pretty exciting!
What’s so special about the Metal Gear Solid Delta release date?
As it transpires, Operation Snake Eater commenced following the disastrous Virtuous Mission, and this event took place on August 30th. By referring to my reliable calendar, we find that this date, August 30th, fell on a Sunday in 1964. This implies that August 28th would have been within the same week.

It’s rare for companies to launch video games over the weekend or even on Fridays. But interestingly, Konami has chosen a release date that is as close as possible to the original Operation Snake Eater for the upcoming remake, which will surely excite fans.
It’s intriguing that Konami has chosen this particular week, which coincidentally marks the start of Snake Eater, for the release of their new game. Whether they intended this parallel or not is yet unknown. However, we’ve been eagerly awaiting a release date, and the latest Delta trailer did not fall short of expectations. It showcased both updated gameplay and remastered cutscenes, offering us a detailed glimpse at The COBRA unit. As anticipated, the designs remained faithful to Kojima’s original concepts.

Additionally, we were privileged to witness Unreal Engine 5 demonstrating its power further – packed with numerous explosions and lively in-game scenarios. In contrast to the peaceful segments shown during demos, these were more dynamic. The introduction of innovative controls transforming Snake into something akin to Rambo might suggest that the game is leaning slightly towards an action-oriented style.
Though everyone is eagerly awaiting the game’s official launch, there’s a glimmer of anticipation that a playable demo might be unveiled for those who are new to the game to test out. As a Metal Gear Solid (MGS) enthusiast, I can confidently say that such a demo would undoubtedly keep us engaged until the full game is finally released. For those unfamiliar with Delta, Konami has thoroughly updated Kojima’s 2004 classic, while maintaining some adjustments to the original work.
You’ll have the option to select from the conventional camera angle, the overhead view, or the modern third-person perspective similar to The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes. Moreover, you’ll find an advanced damage and health system, along with sophisticated enemy AI, which combined, promises a unique homage to one of the most iconic games in history.
