As a passionate moviegoer and fan of Amy Schumer’s work, I can’t help but admire her resilience in the world of comedy. In her memoir, “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo,” she vividly recounts the grueling hurdles she faced for years on end to break into stand-up comedy, a journey not unlike that of Kevin Hart, as detailed in his book “I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons.” Few individuals could maintain the grit required to strive for stand-up comedy success in the United States. The relentless travel, meager earnings, the gut-wrenching bombings, harsh audiences, and the long, arduous years of little to no progress – a constant struggle between the brink of poverty and homelessness. It’s a testament to her unyielding spirit that she persevered and rose to become one of the most successful comedians today.
Success stories such as those of Kevin Hart and Amy Schumer have brought incredible wealth, fame, and recognition to the fortunate few. In recent times, Amy Schumer has been focusing on her Hulu Series titled “Life and Beth,” which received an impressive rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
As a dedicated film enthusiast, I’ve been following Amy Schumer’s cinematic journey for quite some time now. She’s penned four movies so far, with “Trainwreck” (2015) standing out as an absolute gem. Movies like “Snatched” (2017) and “I Feel Pretty” (2018) had a few chucklesome moments, but they didn’t quite match the hilarity of “Trainwreck.”
Recently, Schumer released her latest film, “Kinda Pregnant,” exclusively on Netflix. While I felt it wasn’t as strong as “Trainwreck,” there were numerous instances where I found myself laughing out loud. The plot revolves around a woman deceiving the world about her pregnancy, which is an unconventional and daring concept that, surprisingly enough, still manages to be funny.
I must admit, I was quite taken aback by the 17% Rotten Tomatoes rating for this film. It seems to me that many critics might not fully grasp what constitutes a genuinely funny comedy movie. Reading the negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes after pouring so much time and effort into creating a humorous comedy must have been quite a shock for Amy Schumer. Despite the less-than-favorable reception, I believe “Kinda Pregnant” is worth checking out for its comedic moments.
