Fans of the soap opera “The Young and the Restless” recently experienced worry over potential departure of Eric Braeden’s character Victor Newman. This uncertainty stemmed from rumors about Braeden leaving the show, but his iconic character has been a mainstay for quite some time. Interestingly, the initial plan was not to give him such a significant role; in fact, it was only intended for him to appear in minor capacity over a short period.

Is Eric Braeden’s Victor in talks to leave The Young and the Restless?

As a devoted fan, I can confidently say there’s no chatter at the moment indicating that Eric Braeden is discussing his departure from The Young and the Restless.

Fans had speculated that the actor might be departing due to a recent altercation involving a gunfight with Ian Ward, an incident in which he narrowly escaped death. However, it is reassuring to know that the 83-year-old star will not be leaving the show. Instead, Braeden’s character, Victor Newman, will concentrate on strengthening his relationship with his daughter Victoria during his recovery period.

However, Eric Braeden had exited or almost exited the show multiple times in the past.

In a 2024 interview, Braeden shared that he initially considered leaving the show following his contract extension, which extended his role beyond the initial three-month period. The reason for this was his reluctance to continue playing villainous characters as he had before joining the series. However, after discussing the matter with co-creator William J. Bell and with the creation of a more complex and multidimensional storyline for Victor, Braeden decided to stay on the show.

Back in 2008, during an interview with National Ledger, I confessed that there was a time when I seriously considered walking away from the soap opera. This decision came about during Lynn Marie Latham’s tenure as executive producer. The reason for my contemplation was the direction they were taking my character, which didn’t sit well with me. To make matters worse, she seemed oblivious to my dissatisfaction.

However, despite my reservations, I chose to stick it out, hoping that things would eventually improve. And guess what? She ended up getting removed from the show.

In October 2009, Braeden had to leave the series temporarily due to disagreements over his contract with Sony. His final day was set for November 2nd, but he later resolved the issue with Sony and renegotiated a new deal, enabling him to continue appearing on the show.
