As a dedicated fan, I find myself immersed in the virtual world of WWE 2K25. In this grand arena, I witness the iconic duo, Roman Reigns and his trusted advisor Paul Heyman, making a swift yet impactful entrance from one end of the venue. They glide effortlessly through the crowd to the opposite end, pausing for a few snapshots with eager fans before disappearing once more. It’s understandable, given the impending Royal Rumble, the Tribal Chief needs every precious moment to meticulously plan his strategy for eliminating 29 other competitors in this epic battle.

I didn’t get a chance to take a selfie with the OTC as they flew over my location, but instead, I waved at them and pointed upwards. That’s fine, though! I spent numerous hours playing WWE 2K25 during the Royal Rumble weekend. From what I’ve tried so far, this year’s version looks promising for the series; it seems like a standout release.

If you’ve had experience with WWE 2K24 (or ’23 or ’22), the fantastic news is that you can easily jump into the gameplay without much of a learning curve. The controls for light and heavy attacks, grapples, submissions, carrying, entering and exiting the ring are similar to previous versions, making it feel like home sweet home. Chain wrestling is back, adding an extra layer of excitement to matches against skilled wrestlers such as Kurt Angle and Bret Hart, creating a dream match that’s truly electrifying.

In WWE 2K25, I dived headfirst into an array of fresh, exhilarating experiences! One highly-anticipated feature that caught my attention was the return of intergender matches – a dream come true for many fans. Ever pondered who’d win in a showdown between Rhea Ripley and Jade Cargill versus The Rock and Jacob Fatu? This year, you can find the answer within the game!

Still, I’m thrilled about delving into a dynamic setting that surpasses ordinary menus. With what 2K has shared, it brings to mind the backstage atmosphere of vintage games like WWE SmackDown: Shut Your Mouth. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope it meets expectations.

In WWE 2K25, the standout feature is the Showcase mode, where you can reenact (and in certain instances modify) the results of matches and scenes from the popular Bloodline storyline that’s enthralled WWE fans since 2020. During the preview build, I controlled Nia Jax during her Queen of the Ring match; subsequently, I assisted Roman against Seth Rollins in a reenactment of their singles contest from the 2022 Royal Rumble. If you’ve played previous editions’ modes, Showcase should seem familiar, but what makes this year unique is Paul Heyman’s video commentary between scenarios, which builds anticipation for upcoming events in his signature style.

In WWE 2K25, it’s anticipated that you’ll find the biggest roster yet in the 2K series, boasting more than 300 NXT, main roster, and Legend Superstars. However, not all were accessible during my demo playthrough. Yet, I got to test drive The Rock, who I believe is the greatest of all time in sports entertainment. The “Final Boss” entrance he showcased was as authentic and dazzling as you’d expect from the 2K series, much like the others I observed during gameplay.

Spending time with WWE 2K25 has me eager for its launch in March.
