When & Why Is MultiVersus Game Shutting Down With Season 5

In a surprising turn of events, MultiVersus Season 5 has rekindled interest in the game, yet not for the desired reasons. The multi-character brawler, where renowned Warner Bros. figures such as Batman and Arya Stark engage, is set to conclude its run. With the announcement that MultiVersus will cease operations following Season 5, players are left pondering the motives behind this decision.

When will MultiVersus Season 5 start and end?

MultiVersus Season 5 started on February 4, 2025, and will end on May 30 at 9 a.m. ET.

The online game debuted on May 28, 2024, but regrettably, its lifespan is nearing its conclusion, barely a year following its premiere. On January 31, 2025, the development team declared that support for the game will cease on May 30, 2025. Those who have previously downloaded the game can continue playing it offline, but after May 30, it will be taken down from all digital marketplaces.

Why is MultiVersus shutting down more updates after Season 5?

I haven’t got any word yet on why the developers are halting further updates for MultiVersus beyond Season 5.

Following the initial announcement, the technical squad chose to disclose the impending shutdown without giving a clear explanation. They did mention that the decision was not taken lightly. Moreover, they acknowledged and commended the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams for their dedicated efforts in developing the game. The development team also extended their gratitude towards the MultiVersus community for their unwavering support throughout this remarkable journey.

Beyond this, Game Director Tony Huynh likewise conveyed his appreciation to those who backed the game. Notably, Huynh also extended an apology to the fanbase for omitting several beloved characters because of time constraints.

Ajax, our community manager, acknowledged the backlash following the abrupt closure of the game. He expressed, “I understand that everyone’s feeling frustrated and seeking explanations at this moment. However, it’s important to note that threatening physical harm against anyone is unacceptable and will never be tolerated.

The team hasn’t disclosed the cause of the game’s termination, but players suspect it’s because the monetization strategy made it difficult to buy individual fighters as prices for cosmetics increased drastically. Furthermore, the removal of early access in June 2023 could also contribute to the game’s downfall. (via Direct)
