In a recent conversation, Harrison Ford discussed his portrayal of Red Hulk in “Captain America: Brave New World.” He shared that he crafted the character independently without guidance from Mark Ruffalo. Through self-discovery, he brought to life this significant character, Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and introduced another Hulk-like persona onto the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s stage in a theatrical production.
‘Had to wing it,’ says Harrison Ford about his Captain America 4 role
In an interview with On Demand Entertainment, Harrison Ford was questioned if he had discussed the possibility of portraying a Hulk character in the MCU with Mark Ruffalo. Ford replied, “Ruffalo wasn’t reachable for advice,” and further mentioned, “I had to improvise. I sincerely hope he isn’t displeased.” In a humorous note, he also playfully suggested that he would challenge Ruffalo in a contest to see who is more ‘Hulk-like.’
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Tim Roth’s Abomination and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk have previously played Hulk-like characters on screen. However, Tyler Ford’s character will be the second Hulk-esque figure to appear in an MCU film, and he’ll undergo a major transformation into the Red Hulk. Interestingly, Ford’s character, Ross, has historically been a thorn in the side of the Hulk. This on-screen metamorphosis signifies a notable change in the direction of the MCU.
Director Julius Onah extolled Ford’s acting, likening it to something extraordinary, or “mind-blowing.” He exclaimed, “On the set, we all found ourselves saying, ‘Goodness gracious! He absolutely nailed it!'” Furthermore, Onah underscored Red Hulk’s volatile temperament, labeling him as a “rage monster,” and hinted at the reemergence of a more belligerent Hulk persona in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (as reported by Empire).
As a die-hard fan, I’m excitedly speculating that Ford might reprise his role as Red Hulk after Captain America: Brave New World, hitting screens on Valentine’s Day 2025. His recent comments hinting at a possible confrontation with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk certainly fuel the anticipation for an epic future face-off. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming films like Thunderbolts could offer more chances for Ford’s character to broaden his impact within this fantastic franchise.
