Justin Baldoni recently amended his legal action towards Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. He now accuses Reynolds of exploiting the Deadpool & Wolverine film as a platform to belittle him, while also asserting that Lively’s camp had been plotting to damage his reputation for quite some time.
What’s new in Justin Baldoni’s lawsuit?
On Friday night (as reported by Variety), Baldoni’s revised lawsuit was submitted, focusing on two distinct aspects. Initially, it targets The New York Times, as Baldoni’s legal team claims that they had access to Lively’s original civil rights claim up to 11 days before their report, with data provided by Baldoni’s team showing that the Times reportedly possessed information regarding this story since October 2024.
In legal proceedings, it’s alleged that Lively’s team conspired over an extended period, using metadata and their work on a long-term story as evidence, to tarnish reputations by weaving a intricate net of deceit, false claims, and the misuse of illegally obtained communications, as claimed by Baldoni’s attorney Bryan Freedman.
In the revised court documents, they’re saying I, back in 2024, claimed that Ryan Reynolds, through his character “Nicepool” in Deadpool & Wolverine, was sending me subtle jabs. Apparently, this character is supposed to represent a mockery of me or, as Ryan sees it, my persona.
According to the lawsuit, Reynolds depicted Nicepool as an exaggerated, satirical version of a progressive feminist, culminating in her death at the hands of ‘Ladypool,’ a character voiced by Blake Lively. The suit further states that Nicepool was created with the intention of being a transparent and mocking representation of Reynolds’ skewed view of Baldoni.
Baldoni’s new, updated lawsuit comes alongside website for information
This week, Baldoni’s team unveiled a fresh website along with their new suit. The team, led by PR manager Melissa Nathan and attorney Bryan Freedman, is responsible for this launch. Named “The Lawsuit Info,” the site offers access to two separate PDF documents. Among them is Baldoni’s updated complaint against Lively, as well as a chronology of significant events related to the case that the team refers to as “relevant events.
In summary, two files are connected to the legal documents presented by Baldoni’s team. The main events file, comprising 168 pages of data, chronicles the initial disputes between Baldoni and Lively. Meanwhile, the revised complaint PDF is merely a reproduction of the complaint that Baldoni’s team previously filed in court this year against both Lively and Ryan Reynolds.
Since the release of videos showing activity on the set of “It Ends With Us” by Freedman’s lawyer, Lively’s team has been countering Freedman’s efforts, claiming that he’s been attempting to influence public perception.
Lively’s complaint alleges that Baldoni created a hostile work environment
Baldoni’s legal dispute originates from a formal grievance that Lively filed against him in December. In the complaint, she described a situation during the filming of “It Ends With Us” where the environment became hostile, prompting an urgent meeting to address her concerns. During this gathering, Lively requested Baldoni to cease displaying nude videos or images of women, stop discussing his pornography addiction with her, halt conversations about sexual experiences in her presence, and also to stop making comments about her weight.
The complaint alleges that Wayfarer Studios and the cast had agreed to emphasize Lively’s character’s strength and resilience rather than portraying the movie as a depiction of domestic violence during promotion. However, Lively claims that Baldoni subsequently deviated from this agreement and instead highlighted the film’s serious subject matter in interviews.
In the documents filed by Lively, it is stated that Baldoni and his PR manager, Melissa Nathan, allegedly brainstormed strategies for a social media smear campaign aimed at damaging her reputation. The filing includes approximately 22 pages of text messages between Baldoni’s publicist and Nathan, where they express their desire to see Lively “discredited.
