Sony’s The Beatles Movies Reportedly Finds Its Yoko Ono Actress

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve just learned some exciting news about the upcoming Sam Mendes film on The Beatles: It seems that, following a recent report by The InSneider’s Jeff Sneider, we might have found our very own “Yoko Ono” for the movie!

Who is rumored to be playing Yoko Ono in The Beatles movies?

Based on Sneider’s statement, Anna Sawai appears to be the strongest contender for the role of the renowned Japanese multimedia artist and singer, although no final decisions have been made. Both Sony and Sam Mendes are reportedly considering Sawai for the part.

The romantic connection between Ono and John Lennon is well-known, dating back to their initial encounter in 1966, which eventually led to their marriage in 1969. As a duo, they put out numerous albums under various band names, one of them being the Plastic Ono Band.

After John Lennon’s passing in 1980, Yoko Ono undertook efforts to safeguard his legacy by various means such as establishing the Strawberry Fields monument in New York City’s Central Park, erecting the Imagine Peace Tower in Iceland, and opening a museum commemorating Lennon in Saitama, Japan.

Mendes’ upcoming Beatles film hasn’t announced its complete cast officially, but there are strong whispers suggesting that the primary four roles will be played by Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Harry Dickinson as John Lennon.

Back in February 2024, it was revealed that Mendes and Sony Pictures Entertainment are intending to produce a series of four films based on the Beatles’ stories. Each film will offer a unique perspective, focusing on a different member of the band. Mendes is aiming to direct all four productions, although as of now, no writers have been publicly confirmed for these upcoming movies.

For the first time, the Beatles and Apple Corps Limited have given complete rights to their biography and music collection to be produced by Mendes in collaboration with Pippa Harris from Neal Street Productions and Julie Pastor. Jeff Jones from Apple Corps Ltd. will serve as an executive producer.

Filming is expected to begin in 2025 in the UK. All four movies are projected to release in 2027.
