Many of us, when asked as children what we wanted to be when we grew up, responded with dreams such as “Rockstar”, “Princess”, or “Astronaut”. Even now, I still find myself yearning for those lofty aspirations at times. However, let me make it clear that ESA – the European Space Agency – can’t turn us all into princesses, but they certainly have the means to fulfill one of our space-bound dreams!
The opportunity they offer is an extraordinary one with their ESA Graduate Trainee (EGT) Programme, where you could be a contributor to Europe’s space entrance. Interestingly, ESA places great importance on the abilities we cultivate through gaming experiences. Let’s delve into the specifics of the EGT Programme first!
ESA Graduate Trainee Programme – What it’s all about
Via the EGT Programme, fresh graduates have an exclusive chance to immerse themselves in everything space-related, such as creating and managing space missions. They’ll acquire hands-on experience along the way. ESA provides over 100 job opportunities across various disciplines, encompassing science and engineering, IT, natural sciences, social sciences, and business. If you are completing a Master’s degree in any of these areas, ESA might be offering an ideal opportunity tailored just for you – don’t hesitate to apply! You could very well find yourself reaching for the stars.
Not only does working at ESA sound impressive when telling friends and family (“Oh, yeah, I work at ESA”), but the extra perks of the EGT Programme are an added bonus that will surely seal the deal: (Bragging rights not included)
- A unique professional experience as part of a team of scientists, engineers and business professionals from all over Europe, working together on inspiring space missions in an international, multicultural and friendly environment.
- A great opportunity to gain extensive experience that could open doors to a career within Europe’s space sector.
- A one-year contract (with possible extension for a second year) with 2.5 days’ paid leave per month.
- Excellent employment conditions, including a monthly salary exempt from national income tax in ESA Member States.
- Travel expenses reimbursed at the beginning and end of the contract.
- Expatriation allowance and/or an installation allowance on arrival if you move from another country. Excess luggage costs are also reimbursed.
- Affiliation to ESA’s comprehensive social security scheme and pension scheme.
For those who are currently in their final year of a Master’s degree in engineering, science, or business fields, or have recently graduated from such programs and are citizens of an ESA Member State, Associate Member State, or Cooperating State (you can find the complete list here), this is your opportunity!
To apply, head right over to ESA’s job site and take a look at the opportunities.
You’re allowed to apply for a maximum of three training opportunities, so pick the ones that best align with your abilities and passions. While there are over 100 training positions available, make sure to thoroughly read the details to ensure you fully understand what each one entails. Sometimes, the title might not accurately represent the job, and you may discover that it is more suitable for you than you initially thought.
In February, it’s time to submit your applications for joining ESA (European Space Agency). If all goes well, come September you might be part of this esteemed organization! Remember, ESA recognizes the meticulous skills we develop through gaming, so make sure to emphasize these during your application process. Good luck!
Skills Gamers Develop Without Even Noticing
What abilities are we talking about? Let’s set aside modesty for a moment. Skills honed over countless hours controlling a video game, which may seem ordinary to gamers since they’ve become instinctive for us.
Gamers such as yourself and me are remarkably resilient when it comes to stress. At first, playing Soulslikes might have had us dodging frantically to avoid death, but eventually, we managed to conquer our fears and defeat even the most challenging adversaries like Malenia. Through perseverance and trust in our abilities, we’ve learned to remain calm under pressure and surmount any obstacle that stands in our way.
This leads me to my next point: resilience. We never back down, constantly devising innovative strategies to conquer the obstacles presented by video game antagonists. Whether it’s through creative problem-solving or sheer determination not to be defeated by the one who seeks to dominate the world once more, we find a way.
Let me tell you, I could go on about our insatiable desire for discovery! Whether it’s venturing into uncharted territories, being the hero in a crisis, or just taking a peek at that mysterious, foreboding cave on our route to the next challenge – this constant quest and excitement are traits that ESA truly appreciates. It seems we’ve transferred these skills into our daily lives without realizing it – and it’s definitely something worth acknowledging!
Good luck with your application – let’s shoot for the stars, gamers!
