Movie studios are planning to unveil significant film previews during Super Bowl LIX, with Disney, Universal, and Paramount taking the lead. Anticipated premieres include Marvel films such as Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four: The First Steps, Jurassic World Rebirth, How to Train Your Dragon, M3GAN 2.0, Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning, Novocaine, and The Smurfs starring Rihanna. These films are likely to receive prime-time screenings to an audience of over 120 million viewers. Unfortunately, James Gunn’s Superman trailer will not be shown at the event.
Fantastic Four, The Smurfs to have trailers at Super Bowl LIX in 2025
The upcoming Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025 will showcase blockbuster movie previews from Disney, Paramount, and Universal. These film studios are among those spending between $7.5 million to $8 million for a 30-second advertisement. Last year’s event attracted approximately 123.7 million viewers across both traditional TV broadcasts and streaming platforms.
In the year 2024, Disney reigned supreme at the domestic box office with a staggering $2.2 billion earnings. Two out of three of their upcoming Marvel films are set to be unveiled: Captain America: Bold New World on Valentine’s Day (February 14), Thunderbolts in May (May 2), and Fantastic Four: The Initial Strides on July 25th.
Among the anticipated trailers are Snow White (set to release on March 21), Lilo & Stitch (due out May 23), and Pixar’s Elio (slated for June 13). Typically, Disney unveils sneak peeks of their significant summer movies during the Super Bowl. Previously, they have premiered trailers for Deadpool & Wolverine and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
In 2024, it’s expected that the blockbuster movie, Universal, with a domestic gross of $1.88 billion, will release a trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth (set to hit theaters on July 2). This film is helmed by director Gareth Edwards and features prominent stars like Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.
Additionally, you can anticipate the release of these upcoming trailers: “How to Train Your Dragon” on June 13th and “M3GAN 2.0” on June 27th. In a unique promotional strategy, Universal showcased M3GAN with viral marketing, incorporating live events and public appearances.
Paramount is expected to show trailers for the upcoming movies “Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning” (date not specified), “Novocaine” (March 14), and the animated musical “The Smurfs” (July 18) with Rihanna. In the past, Mission: Impossible films have been promoted during Super Bowl broadcasts in 2018 and 2023, with Tom Cruise known for his surprising promotional tactics.
It appears that Sony, Warner Bros., Netflix, Amazon MGM, Lionsgate, and Apple Studios are not planning to advertise during this year’s Super Bowl. Warner Bros. last showcased The Flash during the Super Bowl in 2023, while they recently aired trailers for Superman at the AFC and NFC championship games instead.
By Deadline, last year’s top-viewed Super Bowl trailer on social media was the one featuring Deadpool and Wolverine (75.4 million views, earning $211.4 million in its opening), closely followed by Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (43.2 million views, making $58.4 million in its opening) and Wicked (40.1 million views, grossing $112.5 million in its opening). Trailers for the Super Bowl remain highly engaging online and influence a trailer’s box office performance.
