The Odyssey Cast: Benny Safdie Joins Star-Studded Christopher Nolan Movie

Benny Safdie, known for his role in “The Good Time,” has been chosen to join the cast of Universal Pictures’ upcoming epic drama adaptation of the famous Greek poem “The Odyssey.” The specifics about his character are currently kept secret. The film is set to premiere in theaters on July 17, 2026.

This project originates with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan, who had previously collaborated with Safdie on the 2023 biographical drama “Oppenheimer” that garnered critical acclaim. Apart from The Odyssey, Safdie will also appear in Netflix’s upcoming sequel to “Happy Gilmore,” titled “Happy Gilmore 2,” where Adam Sandler will return to his beloved character.

Who is in The Odyssey cast?

Similar to all of Christopher Nolan’s past films, his upcoming project will feature a high-profile cast such as Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, and Jon Bernthal. In this film, Tom Holland is set to play the main character. The initial plot revolves around Greek hero Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who returns home following the Trojan War. While it was believed that he had perished, his wife Penelope and son Telemachus must navigate the challenges posed by suitors seeking Penelope’s hand in marriage while Odysseus is away.

As a legendary action saga, Christopher Nolan’s take on The Odyssey – derived from Homer’s timeless tale of the same name – is set to hit screens. After the acclaimed partnership between Universal Pictures and Nolan on Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer biopic, this project marks another venture. The film will be jointly produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas, with production slated for late February.
