As a dedicated gamer diving back into Dead By Daylight with the exciting 8.5.0 update, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and disappointment. On one hand, I’m thrilled about the arrival of Tome 22, new Lunar New Year skins, and the fresh gameplay that this update brings as we approach February’s edge.
On the other hand, it seems that one of the perks in Dead By Daylight has taken a turn for the worse with an unforgiving nerf. Despite enjoying the updates to Freddy as a Killer, I can’t help but feel let down by this misstep in balancing game mechanics. Here’s to hoping future updates will address this issue and maintain the enjoyable experience that Dead By Daylight offers.
Dead By Daylight update delivers terrible nerf for Wake Up perk
Behaviour Interactive has unveiled the final adjustments for the Dead by Daylight update 8.5.0, and among these alterations is a revision to the functionality of the Wake Up perk in DBD.
- [OLD] Once all Generators are powered, Exit Gates are revealed to you. While opening the Exit Gates, reveal your Aura to all other Survivors. While Wake Up! is active, you open the Exit Gates 40/45/50% faster.
- [NEW] Once all Generators are powered, Exit Gates are revealed to you. While opening the Exit Gates, reveal your Aura to all other Survivors. For each Survivor still alive, you open the Exit Gates 8/10/12.5% faster.
In the update details, BeHaviour explains that they aimed to give the Perk a more distinct character since it was previously straddling the line between self-focused and selfless. Their goal with this adjustment is to strengthen your role as a symbol of hope in endgame scenarios, helping keep your teammates alive so they can enjoy the benefits of the Perk.
It appears the update hasn’t been well-received, particularly the adjustment made to Wake Up in the recent 8.5.0 developer update on Reddit. Criticism towards this change is quite substantial, with many users questioning its necessity. For instance, one user asked, “Was it truly necessary to nerf Wake Up that much?”, while another expressed their dissatisfaction by saying, “That’s not a nerf to Wake Up, they essentially took away the perk entirely.
One comment says, “There’s absolutely no need for using Wake Up right now,” and another user replied, “They [BeHaviour] can’t move forward without completely removing anything intriguing.
One comment reflects the exasperation that “It doesn’t seem logical for ‘Wake Up’ to be swapped due to the reasons provided by Behavior,” while another user laments, “I had minimal expectations, but wow. Behavior seems to be utterly clueless.
DBD update 8.5.0 changes
Below are all of the changes highlighted in the Dead By Daylight update 8.5.0 dev note:
The Nightmare:
Dream Snares
- Increased Hindered duration to 4.5 sec (was 4 sec)
- Increased cooldown to 7 sec (was 5 sec)
- Improved the Sound Cue when charging Dream Snares
Development Update: No significant changes this time around. Mainly some adjustments to enhance user experience and minimize spam, especially in advanced gameplay. This minor modification to the cooldown period aims to prevent specific instances without compromising playability. To keep things balanced, we’ve slightly boosted the duration of the Hindered status.
Dream Pallets
- Increase Rupture range to 3.5 meters (was 3 meters)
- Rupturing Pallets cannot be dropped
Development Remark: A common piece of feedback has revolved around the effectiveness of Dream Pallets, particularly in terms of their immediate influence during a Trial. To address this, we’ve expanded the range for Rupture and ensured that when you drop a Dream Pallet, it won’t interrupt your Rupture charge.
Dream Projection
- Releasing a Dream Projection now cancels a teleport
- Cancelling a Dream Projection incurs the full cooldown
- While charging Dream Projection, movement speed is reduced to 3.86 m/s
- Reveal the Aura of The Nightmare emerging near a teleport location to help with orientation (visible to Killer only)
- Added an SFX/VFX when The Nightmare triggers a Dream Projection on Survivors healing in the Dream World
Development Update:
We’ve listened carefully and are bringing back the feature you requested with a slight modification. Remember, this feature should be used strategically since canceling your teleport will continue to put your ability on cooldown. Additionally, we’ve incorporated an Aura to assist players in navigating post-teleport, as well as enhancements for better clarity when The Nightmare projects a Dream onto healing Survivors.
Wake Up Interaction
- The Wake Up interaction takes priority over Healing. If an injured Survivor is Asleep, an Awake Survivor will be able to Wake Them Up without healing them.
Note for Developers: This section isn’t particularly exciting, but it aims to reduce the frustration experienced while reviving an injured survivor.
OR
Developer’s Remark: There’s not much new here, but this should help lessen the annoyance that comes with reviving an injured survivor.
Add-On Changes
We’ve made a few adjustments to certain add-ons for The Nightmare, as a few were found to be slightly too powerful.
- Jump Rope:
- Decrease to 0.5 sec (was 1 sec)
- Unicorn Block:
- Decrease to 0.5 meters (was 1 meter)
Wake Up perk:
- [OLD] Once all Generators are powered, Exit Gates are revealed to you. While opening the Exit Gates, reveal your Aura to all other Survivors. While Wake Up! is active, you open the Exit Gates 40/45/50% faster.
- [NEW] Once all Generators are powered, Exit Gates are revealed to you. While opening the Exit Gates, reveal your Aura to all other Survivors. For each Survivor still alive, you open the Exit Gates 8/10/12.5% faster.
Designer’s Remark: We aimed to give the Perk a more distinct persona, as it was previously ambiguous, straddling the line between self-focused and selfless. The core concept is to elevate your role as a guiding light in the endgame, keeping your teammates alive to enjoy the Perk’s advantages.
Beast of Prey perk:
- [OLD] Upon gaining the Bloodlust Status Effect, Beast of Prey activates: Gain Undetectable for 15/20/25 seconds.
- [NEW] Upon gaining the Bloodlust Status Effect, Beast of Prey activates: Gain Undetectable for 30/35/40 seconds.
